Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm Aktiveight (akte-v?t) but my real name is Nate. I am an electronic music producer, DJ, and an advocate for music and songwriter rights. I'm 20 years old and my hometown is Pittsburgh, USA but my artistry is based in Philadelphia. I believe that new and underground artists have lost their connection between each other and refuse to collaborate unless it's with someone that has more followers than them. I want bring back that connection by collaborating with those talented artists and make great music! Why? Because I believe that is the key to success! The internet is a very powerful tool to use when you are a music artist. Not only you can showcase your music to the world, but you can also connect with other amazing artists that make the same music as you and you can work on a project together. Every music artist should take advantage of that.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My influences in music has stayed consistent since I have began making music. I began listening to Daft Punk, Deadmau5, and Armin van Buuren when I first started making music back in 2011. When i first started making music, I would want to replicate my favorite songs onto my DAW but they would sound bad and out of key so I would just say forget it! I really focused on the knowledge of music production, I would just go on YouTube and just get lost in the hundreds of videos on how to make stuff like synth patterns and dubstep wobbles. Right now I am starting to push forward onto advocating music rights by collaborating with new and underground artists and spread the knowledge on how to become successful in this industry.
What´s new right now?
This year has been really successful!
– I released my debut album 'The Corporation. I" onto Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, and many more!
– I became a featured artist in Rowan Music Group's first compilation album! And i have done a mini-tour around Philadelphia and the south New Jersey area.
– I recently won People's Choice Award in the 2017 PHL LIVE Center Stage Competition!
I have new music that will be released in 2018 and it will feature brand new artists that I think are very talented and you should give them a listen!

I freak out when i see the legendary dance music artists perform on television. i really don't go to a lot of concerts, but i do like to watch their livestreams online.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
The biggest mistake you can ever make is music artist is to go and perform a show that you know that you've never rehearsed for. And if you mess up, you'll look like like the biggest fool on the planet. not only to everybody else, but to yourself.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?
It's hard to get gigs nowadays. I used to have a guy who would get me to Dj in all the Frat parties, but since he dropped out I kind of just Scavenging for potential gigs and opportunities. A big tip for people who want to start DJing, start at drinking parties first, and then work your way into bars and clubs.

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?
I believe the best way to effectively promote yourself is to be the most annoying person in the world. And I say it in a good sense because you want people listen to your music, and the idea for you is that you don't want your audience to forget the fact that you want them to listen to your music. No matter how many times people say "I'll listen to it later," promote it to them and tell them again because they're going to forget in the next 15 minutes.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
My biggest challenge in the music industry is finding out the right people to network with, and the right people to make good music with. I see too many people that I know who refuse to work with either me or anybody else because the fact that "we don't have more followers." And it doesn't happen in my area it happens everywhere I log into. I communicate with people who live in Michigan and people who live in California and they don't even want to respond because of the fact that I don't have any followers. I even have a message saved on my Instagram and it says "Hey Nate, I'm flattered that you want to collab, but come back when you have more followers than me. after that we'll work on some music."

They normally come on the radio. i subscribed to Sirius/XM on my car and i listen to different channels that preview new music to the public. I would shazam them and look it up on TIDAL and just listen to the artist radio.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?
If you are struggling to finish your track, I would say stop take a few weeks off from the song. Have your friends, your family, and practically anybody who wants to listen give their honest opinion on how they feel when they listen to your music. And you want to take constructive criticism as seriously as possible.
