Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm a 20 year old DJ from New Zealand. I love hard hitting bassy songs with a tempo of 120 and powerful vocals. I also love animals and the natural landscapes, which is where i grew up.
How would you describe your style and genre?
HOUSE
Who are your biggest idols ever? Dead or alive, musician or non-musician.
I admire a lot of people including those i know and don't know personally. my family has been so helpful in providing a solid base and background for my career and i love them for it. i admire the victorias secret angels for showing young women how to look after themselves then show that to the world. and i lastly admire everyday people that are doing their thing, living day by day and night by night in this world just like we all are.
What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
the biggest mistake was definitely thinking things will work just like that. you have to spend countless hours at work getting to that premium finished product. it takes a certain amount of discipline and work ethic to go start to finish. i have heaps of unfinished tunes on my laptop and they will get finished one day , hopefully.
How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?
the first gig i ever got was at a local bar and i got that after practising 1 hour each day in the morning and listening to my mixes on repeat to understand my flaws and to fix them. I think self – critiscim to a point is so important, because no one knows your skills, talents and specialties than you.
What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
overcoming my fear of feeling inadequate. you need confidence to be a dj – not to come off to cocky but you need a certain pizazz to show to the crowd instead of an emotionless frog staring there. So pracitise practise practise and learning to be fully confident with your abilities and then represent that to the crowd.
How do you promote yourself? Do you have any specific promotion tips for other musicians?
facebook, @allamayy instagram @allamay_ are my 2. i also have a website under construction and all my links are listed on my soundcloud soundcloud.com/allamay
Social media is absolutely amazing to a point because you can extend your reach globally and get your music out there within an instant.
but i believe the power of seeing someone live and them having good branding and networking skills is far more important.
We meet again in one year. What has happened?
