Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hello, I'm Andrew Cervantes. I'm a Singer-songwriter from California in the United States. I've been writing and singing my songs now for close to 20 years. I Play primarily in San Francisco, and the Bay Area. I have also played in Brooklyn (NY), overseas in Spain, and in Italy. I write Folk- Americana-with a flavor of the Outlaw Country. My music has been compared to Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazlewood, Blaze Foley, and Harry Nilsson. I write songs that I can feel, Songs that can stay with me over time.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I started playing music because I enjoyed writing poems and short stories. A friend of mine suggested I should learn to play an instrument, that way I could start putting my stories to music. So, I bought a guitar. This was when I was in my early twenties (I got a bit of a late start). My first songs we're really influenced by Bert Jansch. I really loved the sound of finger picking, so I tried to learn a few of Bert's songs. It took some time, but eventually I got the hang of his technique and was able to play a few of his tunes. Not long afterwards, I found myself listening to Leonard Cohen. His songs changed my approach to writing. I started looking for my unique perception of the world around me; Different ways of saying things. I feel the same way about Townes Van Zandt. He could write a song about anything and make it sound beautiful.
My taste changes, but a lot of the artists that have had the strongest impact on my music have stayed with me.
What´s new right now?
Right now I'm in the process of writing new songs, and looking to record my second album.
