Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Eric, otherwise known as Atura. I make music that portrays what goes on in my overly emotional mind.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

When I started making music about 4 or 5 years ago, I was REALLY into artists such as Skrillex, Dillon Francis, etc. Back then I only thought to make music because of how cool it sounded, not for anything specific. Over time, I realized that making songs just to make songs isn't as fun as it is to play out your life or things you find beautiful in your art while also keeping it fun. Lately the people I listen to are very varied, from Lakey Inspired, to Stereo Cube, to Hikeii, to Tennyson, and so on.

What´s new right now?

Right now, I'm actually working on my first album which is super exciting! There will be more on that in the coming months, but be sure to follow my Twitter and like my page on Facebook to follow the journey! I am also planning a few live shows for around March in New England, might go out to a few other places as well but we'll see what happens!

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

I absolutely LOVE Sam Gellaitry. His style boggles my mind and sends me into another place. He is someone who I try my best to imitate in stupid little clips of songs and such. I remember in like 2014 I heard his remix of Body Party by Ciara and I immediately fell in love with his sound and haven't stopped listening since. I'm just such a superfan mainly because he never disappoints with his stuff and he's just such a role model to me.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Thinking the most basis sounds are the coolest. I started out using FL Studio and when I first used it I thought the base drums were the coolest thing ever. I was so wrong.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?

As of lately I haven't been following it, but release good stuff consistently. Make sure you keep your audience entertained. But don't do it just to do it, release the stuff YOU like.

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

I know it may be sometimes scary to do so, but just talking to people is help. Making friends is a lot of help for yourself. Going for it, sending that email to that promo channel that you've always looked up to is helpful. Just go for it!

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Starting music has always been such a challenge, but once I start something it's kind of easy to finish it. Lately, I've been doing things like going on Youtube and just watching someone play piano, then trying my best to take that chord progression and just chop it up and make a whole new chord progression.

How do you personally discover new music?

I love to browse through my friend's likes on Soundcloud to see what they're listening to, because honestly my friend's and I have similar taste in most music.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“I have a few group chats that I'm in and I may sound annoying when I do it, but I share links through there and just beg them to check out the stuff I heard.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Listen to other styles of music, get new plugins, try to recreate the COOLEST sound in your favorite song, go outside the norm and do things the hard way to get the best sound possible, even if it takes a few days just to make one cool sound, once you get that sound, you've learned something you never knew before.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

Take a full listen to the track you have so far, and when it stops, start beatboxing. It might be weird, but if you can get a cool little rhythm you never thought about just from a little 2 second improv, you might get onto something and finish that track.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

An album release, a few single releases, a few shows, hopefully something big and cool to happen. We'll just have to see where this all leads to!
