Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hey. I go by the name aytaylor (capitals intentional), and I am aaaa… well I guess I'm a producer-come rapper. I also have hopes of becoming a songwriter and expanding into other vocal-genres but I'll expand on that later.

I'm currently 18, living in the south of London, and started making music…. when I was 11.. I think. Around that time. My music taste has expanded significantly since then, but I've always had a very diverse taste in music. When your mother loves traditional Nigerian Calypso and Gospel, while your father loves Barry white, you'll always have an appreciation for genres outside the ones you're directly exposed to. That being said, I actually started by making (more like attempting to make) dubstep. I was terrible, but at the time I was a HUGE dubstep head. Excision, Datsik, Helicopter Showdown, 501, Flux Pavillion, all of them and more. Anyway, I shifted from all of that when I whimsically began to experiment, and create an R&B remix to my favourite pop songs. I'm even sure that my soundcloud has my first finished project of this sort, being the Sweet Escape remix. I loved the outcome, and began to take my music in this direction, while also experimenting with features of other genres like Jazz or Soul. My biggest success so far is my 80s Inspired remix to Katy Perry's Last Friday Night. You can check it out on my soundcloud!

Fast Forward to now, and I am trying to make the shift from a 'Remixer' to producing songs with my own vocals. Rapping has always been the other edge of my sword, but not having a microphone can really be a limiting factor lol. I've released my first vocal track on my soundcloud also, and I'm currently working out how to bridge my less conventional musical inspirations to my rap songs, sort of like Tyler the Creator and his music style.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Well as mentioned above, very diverse. Now, I wont sit here and say 'I like a bit of everything', because that's annoying, but I certainly have an appreciation for more genres than the average Londoner.
My collection of influences has only grown over the years, as I've found more and more music, but also cared less about whether my taste in music was 'cool' or 'acceptable'. Production/Composition wise, I'd like to mix features from Jazz, 90s R&B and Hip-Hop and Soul with Contemporary R&B and Rap. My biggest inspirations come from the likes of Anita Baker, SWV, FKJ and New Edition. I'm also a fan of Vaporwave and Future Funk, so naturally that may slip in a bit too.

Vocally, my inspirations are different. I love the sound of J Cole and Bas, J Cole for his lyrical adaptability and skill, and Bas for his musical ear. I still hope to make a song like Last Winter one day by Bas. However, being from London, I also am very inspired by J Hus and Stormzy mainly. I find the choice of vocabulary by J Hus to be, outstanding, while Stormzy just has a take on Grime that really resonates with me. I also am excited to see what Knucks does this year, his sample choices are amazing, and I've always wanted to do something similar – fusing the UK sound with soulful samples and vibes.

What´s new right now?

Right now it's time for me to embark on my lyrical career, so to speak. My first track, dom cobb (produced by Foreign Kash) has just been released on soundcloud and youtube. I hope to release more fairly soon, and a whole EP nearer the summer!
