Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name's James Bennett and I'm a bassline and drum and bass DJ from Plymouth. I've been mixing for about a year and a half now and thought I'd like to be involved in the music scene. So I decided to start up an events label called 'Primal Bass', we've run two events so far and both have been extremely successful. I've played many sets in Plymouth for several labels and i've played a few sets in Exeter and I'm now focusing on sets in Bristol/different cities and producing!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I've always had an interest in the underground scene and had a bit of money lying around so I thought i'd spend it on a pair of CDJ's and teach myself to mix. My first set didn't come until a few months after in Exeter, but as soon as I moved to Plymouth I began getting regular sets. My taste is currently changing at the moment, from bassline to drum and bass, due to the fact that I feel like there's not a great deal of variance in the sounds in bassline, I'm more interested in the darker sounds.
What´s new right now?
I'm purely focusing on sound design at the moment, I use Logic Pro x, but may shift over towards Ableton as I'm more familiar with the DAW (platform). In regards to sets, I've got bookings up until April, however, I've had to pull out of two of my biggest sets due to the fact I'm in Malaysia! I was meant to be supporting drum and bass legends Fabio and Grooverider and the legend that is Chris Lorenzo. Below are a few of my dates for 2018!
