Basement Love

Read the Basement Love Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

I'm Basement Love. I'm a music producer based out of Toronto, Canada. I'm mainly take old disco/soul recordings and turn them into slow house jams. I also create nu-disco remixes for other local and international artists on numerous labels. I've been producing music for over 10 years.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

When I first started out I was heavily influenced by two of the biggest french dance duos Daft Punk and Justice. I loved that french house sound that was emerging into the scene at the time. Later on I discovered Darius's early work and immediately wanted to make music just like "Falling In Love". More recently I've been inspired by electronic artists like Classixx, Jensen Sportag and Chad Valley. I love how all these artists use space, melody and convey emotions into their music.

What´s new right now?

I've recently released a remix of Alexander Hristov's "No Sweat" through Spirit Soul Records which is already climbing up the charts on Traxsource. My previous remix of Mateo Roksandic's "Me & You" through SSP received a huge amount of positive attention from artists like Satin Jackets and Goldroom and has now just been included into music compilation for Cosmopolitan Germany. I'm also releasing tracks on my Soundcloud and working on some other releases into the new year.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Spending more time on production them songwriting and composition. You can make amazing sounds and have a great mix but knowing music theory and how to arrange instruments together is even more important in my opinion.
