Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

I go by Brylo. I am a DJ and producer from Los Angeles, California. Here is my story…

My journey started back when I was an eighteen-year-old college student working as a roadie for an alternative indie band named Avid Dancer. They have played with some great bands such as Mac DeMarco, Chicano Batman, Kaiser Chiefs, and Hanni El Khatib, to name a few. There I was, hanging out backstage with seasoned rock stars at historic LA venues. While taking in this environment, I knew I was destined for the music industry. I even had big dreams of starting my own alternative record label.

So… I started seeking out talent. But these artists never had (or could afford) good recordings worthy of a label release. In my infinite wisdom, I thought to myself, "Why don't I record the bands myself?" I never did start that record label and I'm glad I didn't… But! I did learn the next best thing: The Art of Recording Music. I ended up working with many talented local rock bands while learning everything I could about the craft in books and on YouTube. After some time, Jacob Summers, front man for Avid Dancer, asked if we could record some demos together. In August of 2015, I recorded and produced "I Feel It," an indie-alternative pop single… and it absolutely killed.

“I Feel It” went on to be played across major radio stations in Los Angeles such as KROQ 106.7, ALT 98.7, and even lasted in the top charts for 14 consecutive weeks on Sirius XM’s "Alt Nation’s Top 18," peaking at #9 and beating artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Grimes, and Cold War Kids.

Avid Dancer toured internationally at the end of that year and I came along as their Tour Manager/Producer. Let me tell you… that was a hell of an experience to say the least! It truly was the rock star life! The following year, me and Jacob teamed up one more time to co-produce “You Only Like Me With The Lights Out," which received notoriety from the likes of Vice's Noisey and Kevin Bronson's Buzzbands LA. I would later go on to record punk, country, and folk artists, all reaching their own acclaim respectively.

So how did I get into the EDM scene??? One day my buddy Chris wanted to see Dutch duo, Firebeatz, over at Create Nightclub in LA. I scoffed and laughed at the idea because at the time, I was all about rock music. But for some weird reason, something inside me told me to give it a shot and see what the craze was all about…

…and I was hooked. I remember leaving the club telling myself, "I'm going to be the best edm producer in the world." It first started as a part-time hobby. Eventually, I was so passionate and dedicated about it that I told my parents I was dropping out of school to pursue a music career… and they were pissed! But I knew I was going to be a top music producer and was willing to do whatever it took.

My big problem? EDM production is a COMPLETELY different game than indie rock production. But I went back to my old teacher YouTube and studied all of the big and relevant artist. In the middle of 2017, I released a Latin Deep House/G-House track titled "Wut" on SoundCloud. Around the same time, I debuted as a DJ for a local house event called "Space Taco" in downtown Pomona. I appreciated the opportunity that those guys gave me and was fortunate enough to talk to some talented DJ's. But after that, I felt inspired and decided to stay in my studio cave to hit it hard through the end of the year. And now we're here…

It is now January 2018, and I decided to kick things off into high gear! I just released a Bass House track titled "Hype," which is available for you to listen below. Feel free to check it out!

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Some of my favorite artists growing up were AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, and Queens of The Stone Age. I love all genres and find that most producers can appreciate all genres of music too. But as I transitioned into electronic music, I found that more of my time was consumed listening to House, Deep House, G-House, and Bass House.

I started off with Firebeatz, then into Laidback Luke, then into Tchami, then into Malaa, then into Ghastly. Eventually, I only listened to Confession artists, as I found it was the only music worth listening to. I'm currently a fan of Angelz, Brohug, Dombresky, and Jace Mek. Most recently, I've been obsessed with what Jace Mek has been putting out.

His "Trippy House," as I like to call it, is quickly on the come up and he continues to be a huge inspiration to me. In my humble opinion, that guy is the best producer I know. SERIOUSLY, HIS SOUNDS ARE LITERALLY OUT OF THIS WORLD AND WILL GO UNTOUCHED!!!

I've slowly transitioned into Dubstep and Hybrid Trap, being inspired by artists such as Barely Alive, Zeds Dead, LAXX, and TYNAN. As I experiment with and listen to these genres, who knows what the future holds.

What´s new right now?

Currently, I'm preparing to release a G-House track titled "158 Dollas" and am looking to release my first EP "Nothing But Hype," out March 2nd, which I hope gets picked up! I'm also working on a remix for a song called "Again and Again" by local Trap artist, Matalo, whose remix EP will be out at the end of January. I even laid down some rap verses over that Hybrid Trap remix, so I can't wait for that to be released! His remix album includes remixes by many talented local artist. Recently, I produced a track for Jacob of Avid Dancer to topline over, but we'll see what happens with that…

I've been producing for about 6 years now, yet, this is ONLY just the beginning and there's SO MUCH MORE on the way! The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step; and I'm just getting started.

If this resonated with you, follow me on this journey!
