Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Bowdy Mata'utia, I'm a 23 year old DJ from Brisbane, Australia and I go by the DJ name BXWDY (Pronounced Beau-Dee).
I started DJ'ing by entering the 2017 Yourshot competition. I was taught, by a local legend NOY, the basics and went on to perform on along side the other contestants as openers for acts such as Party Thieves and DJ Tigerlily. I eventually bought my own set of pioneer decks to upskill myself at home and have managed to become a resident DJ at a small bar called London Fields in West End since then.
I'm still a small time DJ, slowly trying to work my way up the ranks by playing where I can, when I can. I play a verity of music, alot of house music but my favourite genre to mix would have to be Hip-hop/new age rap and soulection.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
Growing up my father was quite strict on the things we watched and listened to so I didn't really listen to alot of the top 40 or Hip-Hop/rap music back then but over the years my taste in music has changed frequently. Throughout my highschool years I was really into techno, Melbourne bounce, EDM kinda stuff and then trap, dubstep, riddim came around and I got into it. I really wanted to be like the Tomorrowland DJ's but I couldn't really see myself doing it and I just didn't enjoy playing that type of music. I found myself listening to alot of old school Hip-Hop while drawing and just chilling out. Eventually I looked into the newer generation of rap artists and now that's where my influences roll in from. Artists in the Hip-Hop an R&B/Rap and soulection genres. Artists like GOLDLINK, Kaytranada, Swindail, Young Franco, Joey Badass, The A$AP Mob, Manu Crook$, Blanda, Stööki sound, Metro Boomin, Aminé and 21 Savage feature heavily in my sets now.
What´s new right now?
I've been promising to drop new mixes for a long time now but I've been super busy with my day job, moving and I'm my own worse critique so I've been working hard to get them perfect and I promise they'll be released soon! So keep an eye out on my socials for release dates! But yes, I have big big plans for 2018 and I'll be on the grind behind the scenes to make dreams become reality, like playing in Brisbanes and Gold Coasts bigger venues and events. Open for major artists and even possibly sneaking my way into a festival set, so keep your eyes and ears open for me this year. It's gonna be a big year for #BXWDY. Lessgoo!
