Check out and share our Chimula Interview. This interview is part of our new Producer & Engineer Q&A Series. In this interview series we feature exciting producers, mixing and mastering engineers from all walks of life. As always: Share & Support!

Please introduce yourself real quick. Tell our audience about your background and how you go into doing what you´re doing right now.

First and foremost, my full name is Chimula Mwanza and I come from a place called Lusaka, Zambia… And I'm 19 this year.
I started music production in the 8th grade when I was about 12 years old with some average school grades, but back then I didn't have much of an idea on what I was doing, I would just open up FL Studio and lay down something that would mostly come out like house music or something and it would sound like trash lol… I abandoned beat making for about 3 years and I started again in the 11th grade with slightly more knowledge but still, my beats didn't come out so good but I was always on YouTube watching "how to…" tutorials, I used to use my dads desktop computer so I never really had the chance to freely work on beats plus I didn't have any good headphones to work with. I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life because throughout high school, my grades weren't "the best" and I was only really good at ICT (Information and Communications Technology) so I basically said I wanted to do Computer Engineering, not because I was like "OMG BRO I WANT TO BE A COMPUTER ENGINEER AND ENGINEER COMPUTERS AND STUFF" lol nah… I just chose that course using the elimination method, without music as an option at the time… But anyway, time went by and I got my first laptop in 2016, from there I just started practicing more and more and became better by the day, I would make beats all day and vibe to them with my friends, I fell in love with hip-hop, to be specific trap music… I only used to make trap beats because I loved that sound of heavy 808s and bouncy drums… I started realizing the potential in myself the more I made beats and I realized it's my true passion and it is what I want to do for the rest of my life, not a 9 – 5 which I'd spend half the time complaining about… As at now, I'm currently doing my best to make my beats perfect, also networking with my fellow artists and trying to gain some exposure

Please tell our audience what projects have you been working on in the last years?

I haven't really had many projects in the last few years but I recently dropped an 11 track beat tape called "Transition" which is available for Purchase/Free download on:

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

Take some time off the track, maybe some hours or a day or 2 or work on another track… That will definitely help because by doing that you sort of reset your ears.
