Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm an Ohio producer, and consider myself a poet with my writing skills with the combination of music. I make beats, rather soundtracks that fuel the life around me. I pull inspiration from the adventures I have had to the journey I'm on. My style is eclectic collection of sounds and genres, but I love to push the limits. I put my heart and soul into everything music. I'm a fan of music as much as an artist. My Name is Code Caliber your neighborhood poet and my names origin is that one of my nicknames is Code. As for Caliber I was sitting in the C.I. a bar in Athens Ohio
(where some of family and friends live).
I saw a sign for Kaliber Beer and thought I really like the word Kaliber but wanted to change the K to a C to go with the first part to give flow to the way it comes off your tongue. Im a product of human nature and emotions where my music is the canvas and my words pain the picture.
How would you describe your style and genre?
My style has Elements of all genres.
From Rock, Pop, House, Hip Hop, Country, Folk, and R&B. I'm a Artist of music and try not to limit what I can create an a producer, composer, and writer. I classify my style into a genre all its own called Digital Poetry. When I make music I invest in the time to record my own guitar, make a beat from nothing, and bring the elements together to have an emotion.
Who are your biggest idols ever? Dead or alive, musician or non-musician.
Musically I would have to say
Earth Wind and Fire
Bob Marley
Stu Larsen
Ed Sheeran
Ben Harper
To name a few
Non musician idols is huge list because I draw inspiration from everything that crosses my path. Although I do adapt and five credit when it due.
One of the biggest idols I will tell you is my father Willy Thomas. He is the reason I love music do much and why I listen I mean really listen to music and what message comes from it an show it makes me feel.
What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
When I started out making music I always was hard on myself even when I kick ass at a show. The feeling of I could do better came very often when I was busting my hump to get people to really listen to my music. When in reality my originals got some feedback, cover songs were where I got most of my attention starting out. Then gradually started doing more originals in between covers, and songs started to catch on. My advice is to always go to a show in the mind state that not everyone is gonna like it at first but you can't give up keep pushing and work at being the best you can be.
How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?
Network, network, network
Don't be shy, ask questions, be confident in what your selling (which is yourself).
What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
Working on the best quality of sound coming from my music. I record in my home studio but have worked hard and researched was is going to work with my needs as an artist, and remember you can always upgrade. The challenge for me is always going to keep coming but I just tackle them head on and learn what I need to do and do it. The more time you spend asking questions and wondering somebody else is already doing it. Make a plan to follow and goals to achieve and challenges will come as a welcome rather than an obstacle.
How do you promote yourself? Do you have any specific promotion tips for other musicians?
I control all my social media, and I'm very hands with my own promotion. I make and shoot all my own videos. I works for hours on doing my own graphic and pictures and designs. That's also part of me being a Artist I have a vision from the sound, look, and content. Know you audenice that you are trying to attract and don't be afraid to get out there and let people know who you are and what you love to do.
We meet again in one year. What has happened?
Stay Tuned and you'll see what's in store for Code Caliber cause the future is drawn but not finished.
