Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hey! My name's Dave and I make Indie Electronic music under the alias DeModa. I perform live with traditional instruments and beat pads through Native Instruments' Maschine software, which allows me to record and loop sounds and samples so I can play as a one man band.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

The acts I'm most intrigued by are the ones who push the boundaries of traditional music genres and ideas. Artists like Flume, Porter Robinson, Odesza, Mura Masa, etc. all invented and honed their own style by breaking the mold and tastefully experimenting with new ideas and sounds. Each new piece of work released by the aforementioned feels like a different chapter that thrusts you deeper into that artist's creative universe.

What´s new right now?

I've just released a new disco-electro VIP remix for my track Downtown Glow with Slow Shudder on my Soundcloud and Spotify. Check it out and then come see me perform it LIVE at Mercury Lounge in NYC on Feb 3rd with French Horn Rebellion. Also, Stay tuned for two new singles dropping in the next couple of weeks!

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

If that means buying everything someone releases and attending all shows, then no, probably not.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

The biggest mistake I made early on was trying to release every song I had ever made, even the crappy ones. I honestly think you should be writing music for at least 3 years before you release anything, this way you can establish a style, brand, artwork, and a plan of execution to make each release as effective as it can be.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?

Early on I had to send emails to venues and talent buyers myself. Send them a flattering, well thought out email that will at least make them want to respond, even if you don't get booked. If you do get booked however, make sure you can bring at least 50 people to the show. If you can't bring 50 people, I suggest you just keep honing your music writing skills and working on getting your tracks listened to and acclaimed.

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

Hire a publicist. However most publicists wont take you on if you're not writing good music.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

Soundcloud is tricky in today's climate. It's best to have bigger channels repost your music, but sometimes it can be really expensive and A LOT of the time channels use fake, bot followers to make you think that your track is being listened to. It's really difficult to separate the good investments from the bad ones. One I use with great results is The Gentle Fox.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

My biggest challenge has been getting people to attend my live shows. The solution seems to elude me every time!

How do you personally discover new music?

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Learn an instrument. learn how to mix, master, record. Learn how to do everything yourself because it will all help you to achieve your ultimate vision for a song. Music Theory is important, even though you'll hear some people say it isn't. And it's fun, so learn it.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

If you're having trouble getting passed the first hook, just duplicate the whole first part of the song. Once you have a start and an end, even if they are identical, other ideas will start falling into place. Also, sometimes you have to leave a song alone for a while and come back to it later to hear something different. Work on a few songs at a time until you have a concise vision for one song, then beat on it until it's done.
