Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My real name is Orhan Mustafovic but i aslo go by the name O-One, I'm a 28 year old DJ based in Sweden Gothenburg.
when I'm not battling or playing in clubs or practice DJ-ing or doing music, i focus on my academics and i work 3 days a week as a sales man selling consumer electronics (phones, audio video, etc). I found my passion for music when my family moved to Gothenburg , coming from a small village north of Sweden i was never exposed to Hiphop , so my first day at school in Gothenburg i did se a lot of the older kids Breakdance, and they where listning to a lot of the classic break beats (James Brown,Apache, Lets Dance To The Drummers Beat etc). So i started off as a b-boy dancing and hanging around with the older kids they also listed to a lot of hiphop and i fell in love with the music as a 11 year old.
Me and my family always travled to Germany every year to visit relatives in Stuttgart, and Essen, so everytime my mom was out shopping in those 2 city's she took me to a record shop and let me pick up a couple of CD's so i could listen to them on my way home to Sweden on my freestyle, so i remember telling the sales man at this shop that i was searching for hiphop music , so he showed me a Cut Killer Mixtape that they had on sale told me its a collection of the best urban music in one CD. So my mom bought it and on the cover you se a nordafrican guy with the his baseball cap low standing behind 2 turntables and rubbing the vinyl back and forth. Getting over excited by how fast he cuts records and mixing them back and forth made me feel in love with the art of Deejaying-
One of the older kids i was hanging out with he had som equipment at home so by the time i was 12 i went to his house with my music collection and practiced everyday. After learning the art of mixing i was at DJ jazzy Jeff Show fast forward to 2007 as a 18 year old i was never exposed to se somebody do scratching live on two actual turntables so my jaw dropped seeing Dj Jazzy Jeff play and he alone made me decide to work my whole semester so i could buy 2 turntables and a mixer to learn.
Trough the years me skillz developed swell as my music i started doing clubs and i practiced so hard learning the craft i got acknowledged as one of the most technical DJ's in Sweden , 2015 i decided to compete at the Swedish DMC and came second place unfortunately but that taste of loss made me even work harder , my reputation led me to get land gigs as a support act for both Ghostface Killah ,and 50 Cent.
2017 I sent a mail to DJ City (One of the biggest DJ Sites in the wold) asking if i can be a feature on their Bedroom Session, they said yes, i sent my submission and my routine became one of the best features for 2017 and got exposure trough out the world, that same year i tried to compete as a wildcard for one of the biggest Dj Competition (Red Bull Thre3style) and i landed top 5 in europe.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My 2 first influences was my 2 older sister their music was my music basically so they listened to a lot of Rnb/Soul Eric Benet,Donelli Jones,D'angelo,Jill Scott,Kelly Price,R.kelly their are the reason why i play does artist , they haven't changed that much they still enjoy the same type of music.
DJ Jazzy Jeff has his hearth in hiphop/soul/Funk but he loves electronic music swell and hearing him play today in comparison to when i heard him 2007, he has developed even at the age of 50. he can defiantly rock with the best of the DJ's knowing how to mix and blend everything from heavy bass records to trap, different styles of electronic music even mixing in brass music with hiphop one word WOW. till this day I'm still fascinated by him and his technicality and the way he programs his sets unbelievable
Dj Cut Killer has his niche as always a lot of hiphop the biggest different is that he embraces the new style of hiphop swell and he has he's signature aggressive attitude behind his mixing, but I've seen him play different styles of electronic music like everybody else, in todays age you have to be able to play everything to get booked, he's defiantly still one of my favorite Dj's
My taste has changed a lot over the years, i was strictly Hiphop and Rnb at the earlier stages of my career, but lately I've been embracing alot of latin /african/Brazilian and caribbean styles of music, i just love the energi of the music even if your in a dark club it feels like you are somewhere in a beach with palm trees enjoying yourself . i hated records that where below 80 bpm, so when trap came out i wasn't feeling it but with time i kind of grew in to the style, today i actually love it , trap music is like olives you hate them at first but when you get found to the taste you start likin them lol
What´s new right now?
We are now in 2018 i have to two main goals number one is to get a chance to travel the world so i can showcase what i can do.getting to know new people that share the same passion for music as me , swell as continue to develope my style and practice more and try to compete for that number 1 wildcard spot so i can get a chance to represent my country and win a Red Bull Thre3style World Title.
Germany is the first destination i had in mind because of the big role the country has in why i started off as DJ and i never been to Berlin before it would have been nice to get a opportunity to play there and experiencing the capital, hopefully i get a chance to play in Stuttgart and Essen where it all started for me. I also have a couple of artist in sweden i have in mind i would want to work with this year hopefully go on tour with them throughout scandinavia, and release more mixtapes!
Thank u everybody for getting to know me
