Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
How's it going? My name is Doe Ran and I am a funky breaks DJ from Dublin, Ireland and I have been pumpin' out the tunes on my radio show Bootlegs & B-Sides for the last 8 years. In it you'll find everything from Hip-Hop to Drum & Bass, Reggae to Electro Swing and all sorts of other gems.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My love of DJing began with Hip-Hop, I was first introduced to the culture during it's Golden Age in the 90s, and would spend every Saturday buying all the latest Hip-Hop cassette tapes in my favourite record store 'Abbey Discs'. This place was a hotspot for Irish DJs and the place was always jammed. I used to read the sleeve notes inside the tapes and started to discover where all these amazing samples originated from. This opened the door into Funk and Soul for me, I dived right in and have loved it ever since. As I grew older and started going to clubs I began listening to more House and my ears were opened to all sorts of electronic music. When I moved to Vancouver I discovered Nu Funk/Ghetto Funk, which was the perfect style for me because it consisted of samples from all my favourite old funk tunes with big dirty baselines underneath. The whole lot has mashed together over the years and I've been spinning a mix of all those influences ever since.
What´s new right now?
