Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Coen Douwes, 24 years old, IT headhunter by day, Techno DJ and Producer by night. Born in The Hague, living in Amsterdam.
started getting infected by the virus from when i was 13 years old, being thee only one in the classroom with headphones on, grooving all day long. Eventually got invited to play a set at Club Stalker in Haarlem, got a residency there and played lots of really cool events, eventually climbed up the ladder to more residencies in Amsterdam club scene. Luckily I'm well present at the illegal scene, raves if you might, played loads and loads of illegal gigs where I had to play in the most extravagant venues, you should think of WOII War Bunkers, abandoned warehouses etc.
I am an innovative DJ focussing to the underground sound aspect of electronic music, not too industrial, not too housy, definitely not commercial. Influenced by Techno and House. My style can be compared to the magnific artists from Eastern Europe, names like Mihai Popoviciu, Markus Homm are the artists I look up to and am inspired by. It really took some time before I developed my own sound. It's something I will always be working on developing. But a red line has been created and will be the factor to distinct myself from others.

I'm fully aware of my audience, all the time. Never letting the crowd out of sight. They are the ones who have to enjoy themselves. They who eventually support you, by them why you get booked.

How would you describe your style and genre?

I always try to perform with flavourous DJ sets and give them a distinctive personal touch, delivering a perfectly balanced mixture of groovy beats, warm sounds and emotions to try and get you addicted. Strong Underground Groove, heavy basslines, beautifully crafted tracks with a story in them. Carefully selected at the dance floor, in the heat of the moment. I love independent tracks that differ from one another.

I try to maintain the highest quality at all times, if it were from buying tracks in the highest quality available, till the high performances try to achieve. Even when playing for a smaller, more intimate crowd I make sure to look everyone in their eyes and let them experience music through my eyes. I differ from other DJ's due to my pure love for the music on its self, divers music library and pureFrom strong underground vibes I take you up with some melodic, yet groovy more housy tracks. I try to be in reach for the crowd, and the fact I really try to select the right track for the right moment, I'm always 2 steps ahead of the crowd and I don't let them catch up on me.

On a weekly base I host my own radio show. Douwes Invites on AMW.FM (Amsterdams Most Wanted FM) – weekly shows where I invite other DJ's to play a 1hr set to a very big digital worldwide crowd.

Who are your biggest influences and idols … and why? Do you have any idols? Are you a super fan of anyone? (Dead or alive, musician or non-musician)

Together with Quentin van Honk I'm working on my productions as he is my mentor. I feel I've been waiting to long before making the step to get out there as producer. On a daily base I'm working on creating new sounds, creating and developing my own sound is something I consider as a really important aspect of my DJ career.

What´s new right now? What should our readers know about that is coming up from you?

At the moment I'm working hard to find the right label to release my first EP on.

Just updated my SoundCloud page, be sure to follow as more and more new sounds will appear.

Resident DJ at Club1036, NightDivision (De Nachtdivisie), Oak Residents, De Zware Jongens, Club Stalker.
