Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Ezra Collins and I am an electronic music producer/dj and hail from the midwest of America. I'm the type of artist that isn't interested in producing in a specific genre or style. What I produce is more affected by mood or attitude at the time. I might produce a hip hop instrumental, downtempo, deep house, techno, leftfield weirdness, whatever, as long as it has an underground element and is genuine. As a dj I do pretty much the same. I like to start in one place and totally end up somewhere else through different tempos and genres but always keep it cohesive and locked in a groove.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

My first influences that I can note started in the mid 90's. I gravitated towards the electronica of the time. Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Orbital, Underworld, (early) Fatboy Slim, Dj Shadow. When I became immersed in this music I had the period of research to find out more. From that I became a fan of Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, NIN, Fad Gadget, various other industrial artists. In late high school I started making beats for my friends because they wanted to be emcees. Through listening to their hip hop influences I really gravitated to the underground backpacker hip hop and downtempo of the late 90's and early 00's. I found that all of my influences up until this time used similar methods for music making and that labelled genres be damned. I went to college in Chicago for a bit and was thrown into the world of house music and the art of the dj. For many years after that I dj'd playing all styles of house. Especially Deep House.

As of today, I listen to everything minus your top 40 pop and country, but gravitate to the styles that I've listed. Since time is imminent there will always be new music and tastes will always change. Overall I listen for music that will strike emotion and that can really effect time and place.

What´s new right now?

Right now I am working on an LP. So far the tracks are heavily influenced by samples, vintage synths, and lower BPMs. Good for the gray winter months. I'll try to shop it around for a bit. If nothing happens I'll release it myself and continue on to the next project. Other than that I put out a podcast on Soundcloud once a month called 'Night Drive'. It mixes whatever electronic music that I want to spin that month as long as it has a deep late night vibe.
