Hey! We're Far Fresh, a Maine based music community and blog that strives to get local and independent artists the attention they deserve.

What kind of stuff do you cover mostly? And how do you typically discover and decide WHAT to cover?

We mainly cover electronic music and hip-hop, but are always open to new and experimental sounds! We don't want to strictly tie ourselves down to specific genres. If it's good music, we'll cover it! Most of the artists featured in our weekly playlists are found just by browsing our SoundCloud feed. We follow a lot of independent collectives and labels and they tend to post/repost some amazing stuff that rarely gets the attention it deserves, so we take it upon ourselves to share that great music with all of you!

Can you give our audience some tips on how to get on your radar ?

To get on our radar, honestly, the best thing you can do right now is just send us a message! Every submission that hits our inbox will be listened to. Even if we don't end up featuring an artist, we will reply back and let them know what we thought of their track. We want to give people the information they need to improve their sound and ultimately become a more successful artist!

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

We promote our material mainly on Facebook right now. The tools Facebook provides for audience targeting are great… if you post the right kind of content. The biggest advice we can give to musicians trying to promote themselves on Facebook is to reverse engineer what your favorite artists are doing!!! Go to their fan page and take note of what posts are getting the most attention. Why did their video go viral? How was it edited? What was the thumbnail? The more successful posts you study, the more likely you'll be able to understand and deliver content users want to interact with.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

Something we see a lot of smaller artists do is just upload to SoundCloud and wait for results. Even if the music they upload is incredible, the chance of someone stumbling across their content on a platform as massive as SoundCloud is very slim. What artists should be doing is researching things like SoundCloud promotion pages, collectives, and re-post networks. You should study the kind of music that these types pages are releasing and re-posting and see if your track matches in theme and production quality. When you find a page that matches your style, don't be afraid to send them a brief email introducing yourself and link them your track. The more pages your tracks get released through means the bigger reach your music project will have!
