Flambé.

Check out and share our Flambé. Interview. This interview is part of our new Producer & Engineer Q&A Series. In this interview series we feature exciting producers, mixing and mastering engineers from all walks of life. As always: Share & Support!

Please introduce yourself real quick. Tell our audience about your background and how you go into doing what you´re doing right now.

I'm Flambé. a young producer born in Venezuela, South America. I moved to Québec, Canada a decade ago. I've always loved listening and making music, but I never took this really seriously. I never understood that I could potentially make a living out of it (I am not making a living out of it at the moment, but just be patient my friend). I don't really remember how I really got into producing or what made me start making beats, but I know I loved, and still love, the idea of creating something from my own imagination and making people feel something through a unique instrumental you just created. Also, what I love about producing is that you can be heavily creative and intensely versatile compared to an instrument (which I can also really enjoy, don't get me wrong) where the sound you create is sometimes limited. As a producer, you can assemble a number sounds together in a way nobody has ever done, that's what I love about being a producer and what pushed me to take this seriously.

Please tell our audience what projects have you been working on in the last years?

I've been making beats for more than a year now. I've been working mainly on single beats (hip-hop for the most part) one after another, but also on assuring that I get more exposure every week, and on expanding my knowledge about this art and this industry. I haven't had the chance yet to work on an album or a beat tape or something similar since I've been worrying about setting up all I need to set up (website, youtube channel, social media, etc) before starting big projects. During the past year, I've been really focused on improving my skills and my sound. That's what has the most value to me. Before anything else, I need to make sure I create something great and I improve my skills on the daily.

What are you currently working on? Do you accept clients and and what kind of projects/work fits your profile?

I am currently setting up my beat store to start selling beats the proper way and not via email as I usually do. Also, by networking on social media, I'm getting to know more and more producers around the world with whom I have been collaborating. I'm looking forward to more collabs, with bigger producers and bigger artists. In addition, I'm working, as I said, on improving my skills and polishing my sound since I really enjoy learning (learning something that interests me… unlike some classes in school…) and I'm always thirsty for more knowledge. That's what I'm focusing on right now.

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

I am not because what I'm more interested in the art rather than the artist. However, I look up to many artists and musicians that inspire me every day.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

I got into too much stuff simultaneously and I had less time to create quality content because I always had something to finish first.

I think any new musician should reconsider what they really want to do. To create content part-time like this, can be heavy at some point. There a reason why most people will laugh at you and say that you'll end up in the street if you tell them that you want to be a musician, it's because I believe, from what I've experienced and what I've observed, that it takes smart and hard work to get where you want to be. That's why many artists end up unknown and regret their choice because they didn't put enough work into it. You have to be prepared to take risks and to work your ass off and you'll see people starting to believe and to support you.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

One of my biggest problems right now is that I don't create or work fast enough. When I make a beat I always get caught up in the vibe and it makes me slow down my workflow and I forget that I have to finish quickly because I have to study for an exam I have the next day. This happens also for any kind of work I do. That's something to improve for the next months.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

I will have a bigger network and multiple collaborations with bigger artists/producers. I will reach a whole new level in my music production. Maybe you'll see me drop a beat tape or an album. My youtube channel will have new supporters and my growth will be promising. For the most part, I will be a more wise and resourceful teenager/producer.
