FlashFire/ David Hicks

Read the FlashFire/ David Hicks Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is David Hicks, currently under the pseudonym FlashFire, but that might change. We'll see how things go. I lived in England for 15 years, have since moved to France, and study Electronic Music Production in Berlin.
I'm 19 years old and have been producing electronic music using Logic X since 2016. At the moment I am primarily geared towards trap (with some Arabic themes). I have some experience with writing beats, and am currently working on some beats for rappers. I also have experimented with Deep House. I'll leave a link below. Something I always focus on, regardless of genre, is creating complex rhythms and avoiding the copy/paste strategy that a lot of electronic artists use.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I had little to no interest in electronic music until I was 15. I had a classical upbringing, with a family that exposed me to symphonies, operas, and concertos from birth. I began playing the piano at 4, an ability I still have. I learned Cello for a year, moved onto Drum Kit for 4 years, something that certainly influenced my strong sense of rhythm, and began playing the French Horn at age 10. I began choral singing at 12, and went on tour with my choir to Japan in 2013. With the French Horn being an uncommon orchestral instrument, it was my gateway into live performance. I performed with my school Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Spain and performed Mahler's Symphony No.5 at the Royal Festival Hall with an orchestra pooled from all over the UK. It was only when I was exposed to Logic in 2014 that I became interested in Electronic Music and the process of creating it. In January 2016 I released my first track, which was House. Since then, my style and taste have changed drastically, with each track being notably different from the previous. As far as I'm aware I've used a different BPM for each track I've worked on, just to push myself to do things differently.

What´s new right now?

I will be releasing my new track, Lil Uzumaki, a trap track with Arabic melodies and African rhythms as well as big 808s and funky hihats on February 1st. Look out for it on my SoundCloud, and I hope you enjoy it. If you do, feel free to spread it around and drop me a message if you have any feedback ?:)
