Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My real name is Gregory Delahaye, I'm 21 years old and I come from Belgium. I live in Ostend a small town at the coast. My home and studio are 500m from the coast haha! My artist name is just a simple version of my real name 'Greg Dela'. It sounded international, simple and also cool to make a logo around it so I kept it that way.
I've always been addicted to music. When I was little, I used to dance in front of the television on music that was played on MTV. My first artists I came in contact with were the Bee Gees, cause of my parents, 50 Cent cause of one brother and Robert Armani cause of my other brother (I have 4 brothers yep!). This means I had to listen to everything at home. My first cd I got when I was 5 for christmas and from that moment every time I went to the cd-shop, which was weekly, I wanted to have those new cd's. But now, how did I came in contact with the more electronic music? When I was 8 I heard the track Bart Claessen 'Playmo (First Play)'. Instant goosebumps I got from this track. I really was a big fan of it and instant I wanted to hear more of this genre.
One day I got a demo cd from my uncle with music production programs on it, 'FL Studio' was one of them. I really loved it from the first minute I started working it. In the beginning I had to export 15 seconds, put them together in Audacity, haha! I really don't want you to hear this stuff, it's horrible.
So how can I describe myself the best? My style if 'extravagant futuristic signature sound'. Also my brand and my personality are extravagant. So it's a perfect description! I'm the one always of my friends with the most energy or the guy who dares stuff. That you can also hear in my productions, I dare to experiment with different sounds and genres. I also am a perfectionist when it comes to my productions. I want something to sound 100% how it is in my head. Last years I'm better in achieving this!
I produce music for 11 years now and last 3 years on a bigger scale. I didn't release anything (or not that much) in 2014/2015 because I was finding my own sound. Since my release 'Rapture' with Menshee, I think people can really recognize me. It was really hard for me to find something I feel comfortable with and also represents me.
This is my release 'Words Of Wisdom' on KLASH by Dirtcaps (thanks again to those two bosses) which I'm super proud of and people always can listen to if they want!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
True inspirations and influences for me are Hans Zimmer, Don Diablo, Dirtcaps, Martin Garrix, Zack Hemsey, Coldplay, etc.
I never really had a genre. But in the beginning I tried to be an artist that already was there. And in my old productions you can hear that definitely. That is a mistake a lot of artists do in the beginning.
But I produced Hardstyle, Dubstep, Progressive House, Trance and Deep House in the beginning mostly. At my 15 years old I had my first releases on a good friends his label which lives in the same town. I was overwhelmed, my name on iTunes… WOW! If I listen back, I don't think that's really me anymore right now.
Nowadays I don't really have a genre, but a specific sound that in one or other way always will come through. I now also work a lot more with vocals, but that fit my sound.
What´s new right now?
Right now my track 'Signature' comes online for free download 2nd of december. It is a project that I started during a Dancefair masterclass, so it's really something special. I've now got two gigs scheduled in december which gives me a lot of extra studio session time for the end of the year.
4th of January my new single 'Bring Me Down' will be coming online, it's with a very talented UK singer/songwriter. I met her on soundcloud actually! Her name I will reveal soon. It's a song about bullying and people who don't support someone chasing their dreams. I've been bullied myself so I know how fucked up it is and I really want to support anyone which has been through this. The videoclip off this track will be online 2nd of January 6PM Belgian time. It will be something futuristic poppy. Hopefully I can get some support on this one. But we'll see.
Next year I have a lot shows which are confirmed that are like, really really big and which I'm headlining. So I'm really excited for 2018, cause I love to have a busy life!
If my fans want to help me, is to share my music as much as possible so it can be heard everywhere! I want to put a positive tone in this world with my music.
Hopefully 2018 will be a blast, I'll do my best. But for now everyone keep on smiling and put out that positive note out in life. Thanks for all the support to my fans and friends.
