HKMK “Heckmeck”

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

HKMK is an upcoming german bass producer, DJ and Beatboxer.
April 2016 – HKMK was founded. In the same year he released his first collection of tracks in the following EPs «AMK EP and TAZAN EP».
Over the year HKMK has gained a great deal of attention from producers around the world like TERRA BLVCK and MADDOX.
Early Spring 2017 the “HECKMECK EP” was released, which turnt out to be an utterly aggressive, impulsive hardtrap tune.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years? Do you feel that changing tastes over years as artistic growth? ?

To be honest, I get influenced daily by my beatboxing. Whenever a melody pops up in my head: I beatbox, record and save it – sometimes it’s just a little rhythm or drum pattern, a vocal part and other times it’s an effect sound.
At the beginning stage it was always my priority to put out a very “aggressive” and “impulsive” sound. Over the last year I have expanded my “Music – Arsenal” to multiple Genres like Beatmaking, FutureBass and Hybrid Trap.
Through university it is quite easy to meet new musicians, I just go around and talk to people – its cheap and productive.
It’s the greatest thing to squad up with your people and build up a big project.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Keep everything clean and processed thoughtful from the start. Whenever you start a new project, don’t just put the idea down, instead try to make things sit right in the mix and start to clean things up. By the time that “annoying” work will become a habit, a pretty healthy one.
It is an very big advantage, to do all the technical parts without really having to care about it once you get used to the workflow.
This will open up a remarkable space for your creativity!

How do you promote yourself? Do you have any specific promotion tips for other musicians?

Everyone had to start from scratch. You have to know that music promotion takes time. If you are fresh to the industry, you might know that it is not that likely that labels and promotion networks are going to accept your music that easily. It really takes time and effort until you start to see improvements and growth. Just keep 2 things in mind:

“You need great music and a network of friends.”

“If you want something bad enough it will happen for you – If it doesn’t?
Then you never want it bad enough.”
