Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Lassi Kotamaki, and I make music under the name "idealism". My music consists of pretty, jazzy, melancholic piano, lots of textures and foley, detailed percussions, mixed with lofi elements, that create very relaxing and atmospheric songs.
If I had to give my music a genre, it would be a mix of lofi hiphop, ambient, downtempo and smooth jazz.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
My musical influences change all the time! I like all genres of music, so I get inspired by many different things: from song structure, to small sounds and elements. Over the years I have found so much great music that I really just hop from a trap song to a jazz piano song, and then to a more mainstream electronic type of a track.
Although I listen to everything, I always gravitate towards slow, chill, relaxing tracks, and I'm getting more and more into it. I love being able to vibe to a beautiful and slow track on my own. And because lofi hiphop really blew up last year, I got even more into it, as many new chill artists emerged.
Recently, artists like Lapalux, Bonobo, Harris Cole, Joji, Sonder and Instupendo have been a big source of inspiration for me. So much originality in their sound, it's amazing.
What´s new right now?
This year I will release my debut LP! I have no date for it yet, but it's definitely coming! I'm planning on playing some shows in LA this summer as well. Maybe even in New York, we shall see hehe.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
Biggest challenge, which appears often, is motivation and inspiration to make music. It's horrible when you are out of both. I usually overcome it by listening to more music, or forcing myself to work on a track a bit. It usually comes back like that. Taking a longer break from music helps as well.
