Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Whats up, my name is Imagine, a.k.a "Heartthrob", and I am currently an 18 year old artist from San Diego, CA striving to influence a generation for the better. My sound/style is part everything, I am greatly influenced by any type of genre of music, 60's, 70's, Rap, Trap, even Country, it doesn't matter what genre it is, if it appeals to my ears, I'll dig it. My music speaks for itself, I want to become a star, as big or even bigger as The Weeknd or someone of his stature. I also want to become to San Diego, what Drake is to Toronto, a hero, in a sense, and a legend, in itself.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

My influences have not stayed the same or lessened, they have changed and grew to being influenced by many different types of genres and influential people in history. My number one role model is Jesus. No, not the Jesus that cuts your schools/workplaces lawn every Monday morning, but the Jesus that resides up there, and in our hearts. I am also influenced greatly by Gandhi, Martin Luther Kind Jr., Mother Teresa, and a variety of other influential people in our history. I am striving to be one of those people, to hopefully change the world with music, I'm not sure how yet, but I'll find a way.

What´s new right now?

What's new right now is that I'm working on a project that none of my fans on Instagram or anywhere else knows about called, "Dx". It will be a Mixtape and I've been working on it for the past 2 months and release date TBA. As for shows, I have a show coming up tomorrow, 1/18, at the restaurant, El Camino, in Downtown Little Italy, San Diego right after the art show they are hosting. My set is at 10pm and will last 20 minutes, there will be raffles, prizes, and good music so come through.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Not believing in myself, at one point I didn't believe in myself, and that was the point at which I was the worst. Believe in yourself and you'll start to see the changes, mentally, spiritually, and physically.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?

Networking. All the gigs I have gotten weren't by myself, it was by knowing people and meeting people, and pitching myself a bit, so get out there into the real world because not everything can be done online!

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

Strive to make yourself online look official, put your information up, make a page for yourself on Facebook, don't have your email as "dude6969@hotmail.com". Just try to look and seem official even if you know you very well are not. Try and take some professional photos for your Instagram or Facebook, pay a digital artist for some digital art, make sure that when someone comes to your online page, it looks like you know what you're doing.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

You have to spend money to make money, it sucks, but its the truth, set aside a bit of your check for promotion each time you get paid, and do your research, don't just give your money to anyone offering promotion, choose wisely, do research.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Managing time. Balancing music, School, friends, duties at home, and time for relax. You have to manage/balance your time and put priorities and things that need to be done first, first.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“Once I discover new music, I'll tell my friends about this "dope new song" and play the song for them, if they like it then they'll play it for other people and its like a chain reaction or a music disease, others will start playing it for others and since they like it they keep on playing it and other people find out about it.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Watch YouTube videos, there's practically a YouTube video for any problem you're trying to solve in life, you just have to look. Be determined to get better, set goals, by the end of this year I will be able to make a good-sounding beat in 15 minutes or less. Or even weekly goals, by the end of this week I will be able to know how to quantize correctly. Or if you're trying to write better songs, listen to the lyrics of songs on the billboard top 100's, listen to the way they flow with the beat, every time you listen to a new song you should be learning, every song has something to teach you whether its writing or producing.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

Drop everything you're doing right now, and finish that damn track. It's not going to finish itself and nobody else is going to finish it for you, unless you want to give them your money for something you could've done on your own but you were too lazy to do it. Make a list of things you need to do on physical paper, not on your phone, and put it in a place you look often, and once you finish them and physically cross them out, you'll feel better internally, trust me, it works.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

Make my music blow up, start taking music more seriously, make great music, do whatever it takes to make it this year, no sleep, no food, no fun if that's what it takes.
