Read the IMVGINE Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hello,

If you're reading this you probably have an unhealthy obsession with music. Well hey me too! I'm an artist from Denver, Colorado who goes by IMVGINE (I thought the "V" looked cool, but you get the point) and mostly focus on electronic music.

I mostly have a background in production, but have been fortunate enough to DJ at small local venues, to prestigious venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre here in Colorado.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Before I came to be where I am now, I used to produce a lot of progressive house. Think "deadmau5 – Faxing Berlin", and had a lot of fun doing that. Deadmau5 was actually one of my biggest influencers who brought me into the electronic world. His music, as well as his geeky approach towards music and production really stuck with me thanks to him.

I've always had a fondness for all sorts of genres and what they bring to the table, but my taste has definitely changed over the past 4.5 billion years. From progressive house, to trance music, to indie-pop and synthwave, then finally to where I've found my happy place; future/bass house (there's so many f*cking sub genres, I know).

What´s new right now?

Last year I took a big break from playing shows so I could focus on production, and now I'm craving playing out some of those new tracks. Along with locking in more bookings this year, be on the lookout for new releases, guest mixes, and hopefully Kanye hits me back up so we can make some shoes.

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

I probably am a superfan, but I bounce around between multiple artists to actually settle on one.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

TAKE BREAKS! But don't procrastinate on finishing a project. Don't be afraid to move on from a dead idea.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?

Practice so that you can actually be good at what you do. Unless you are established and have a booking agent, you have to frequently seek out opportunity and network!

Do you have good promotion tips for other musicians?

Create a personality behind your music and brand so that you can find clever ways of promoting yourself to others, and don't ever spam your content. Infact, spamming is probably the worst thing you could do, especially if a key player in your scene notices and gets you blacklisted.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'll give you a call when I got it.

Stay consistent with content, don't make an eye-sore (bad layout and graphic design), and try not let your fans know you're secretly a bot.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Lately I've struggled with keeping all my files organized, especially old projects I've made in the past. I find it best to save what is actually worth keeping, and delete the rest, followed by feeling bad about it for a few seconds.

How do you personally discover new music?

Lately I'll search for underground channels on YouTube and explore Soundcloud to discover new talent.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“If the song really blows me away I'll share it to friends I frequently talk to. I'll also sometimes incorporate it in a live set when I perform.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

One of the best things you can do is critical listening of your favorite songs. Breakdown the arrangement (intro, build up, chorus, breakdown, bridge, outro) and why it works. You don't need a trained ear to hear the small details in a song that will probably go unnoticed if you don't listen well enough. These small details create a big impact in a song and it's quality, so try learning and applying the same techniques.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

I think as artists we will always struggle with this, especially since it will never be "good enough", but there are a few things you can try. Listen to other tracks and study how that artist chose to arrange the song, then apply some of it to your own work. Stick to deadlines, and remember that you can finish a song, but it doesn't mean you have to upload/release it. So don't worry if it isn't your best work, you'll improve after finishing multiple songs.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

Me and Kanye collaborate on Yeezy's.

I want to continue improving as an artist, with both production, and how to market myself.
