Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hey guys. My name is Ioan (www.djioan.com) I’m a UK based DJ and producer in the electronic music scene. I host the radio show ‘Ibiza Sunsets’. For me, it’s all about mood and capturing the vibe with a deep, hypnotic groove, beautiful melodic synth work, brooding bass-lines and occasional vocal hook. Savouring deep authentic signature sounds with a distinct ‘Balearic’ flavour. Playing those tracks that get you tapping your feet and nodding your head without you realising it, regardless of genre, tempo, style or release date. How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I’ve had a lot of different influences and my preference in sound and genre has evolved over time. There is a wealth of awesome music from lesser known forward thinking artists which I like to discover on soundcloud. At present a couple of up and coming artists that really stand out for me is Bristol based Gallago and also Khaen. With the major hitters/labels I’m a huge fan of most things on the Anjunadeep, This Never Happened, Diynamic, Kompakt labels and I’m heavily influenced by established artists and djs such as Lane 8, Solomun, Guy Gerber,Kolsch, Yotto, Luttrell and 16 Bit Lolitas to name a few.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
My number one tip is to find music that resonates personally and emotionally with you as an artist. Develop your own style too many djs just seem to play a playlist of the beatport top 50 crowd pleasers. Or a ‘jack of all trades’ changing genres on a regular basis just to fit an event or gig, with this approach you’ll never develop a true identity with your music. Develop and evolve a sound as an artist/dj to stand out from the crowd, stay true to the music you have the most passion for and develop in these areas. With options now available to a digital dj why not push the boundaries with the use of multiple decks and creative possibilities, create trademark/signature effect racks or look to add additional live elements to a set, As a musician I believe this approach is more fun as you will have a passion for you are playing. Secondly ‘Crate dig’, to find ‘musical diamonds' that fit your projects/sets, there is a wealth of music and artists out there to be discovered, soundcloud can be your friend in this task.
