Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hey everyone, I'm Jason aka Jay Bird. The name is something my dad used to call me when I was a kid. I'm a producer, singer, and DJ making all kinds of electronic music that mainly falls into the dance category. I first started taking music seriously with my indie and psychedelic rock project the Jay Birds where I released a 5 song EP that received support and praise from one of my all time favorite bands, Fleet Foxes. Soon after, I attended a Bassnectar festival and decided that I needed to tap into the energy that was coming out of the electronic dance music world. A few years later, my goal now is to make electronic music that's suitable for a dance atmosphere but also hold true to my organic, folk music roots. The best way to get to know my music is through my Sound Cloud at www.soundcloud.com/jayb1rdmusic
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
When I was writing indie and folk music, my influences included Neil Young, Nick Drake, Ariel Pink, and the Vines. They still inspire a lot of the music I'm making today but my taste has diversified in a really big way. The main influences for some of the current stuff I'm working on are Passion Pitt, Nero, Royksopp, and k?d. My goal is to fuse indie and electronic dance music together in a way that has high energy but still gives an emotional and personal narrative.
What´s new right now?
I'm releasing a new song in two weeks that's a really important milestone for developing my signature sound and moving me closer towards accomplishing my artistic vision. A lot of people have compared the track to Porter Robinson's sound and I take that as a compliment because his music stands out to me as a very satisfying blend of both the emotional and uplifting qualities that characterize indie rock and electronic dance music respectively.
