Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hi folks. I’m Jon Magnusson and I’m a true multitasker. I’ve been making music since I was a teenager but it wasn’t until late 2016 I decided to stop being to comfortable and actually put in some effort in making a career as an artist.
Thanks to me getting me and my music out there I got in contact with the amazing independent music community and I soon realized that I had a gift when it came to connecting with people and helping people connect with each other.
Thanks to a crazy thread on Twitter where I started tagging people whom I thought should get in touch with each other I came up with the idea of #MonsterThread. This became a Facebook-group and a bunch of playlists where independent artists and fans can support each other and network beyond any geographical borders.
For a taste of my own production, here’s my latest EP and a hip hop collaboration I did with a Brazilian rapper.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I’m trying to get influenced by as many kinds of music and art forms as possible. And also by real life events.
The biggest change lately is that I have gotten more and more in to jazz, both classical jazz and more modern stuff.
What´s new right now?
I have a ton of things happening. Personally I just got my first kid, a sweet little girl that make’s me even more motivated to be able to work with music and hence spend more time at home.
I also finished recoding my new EP and that’s gonna be released in February 2018. I also made a challenge to myself during Christmas to record an acoustic EP with five songs, two originals and three quite different covers that’s also gonna be released early 2018.
And then me and my friend Toby Davis (who also produces my acoustic EP) are working hard to keep the #MonsterThread-community growing and trying to make a real impact on the independent music scene getting people to help each other instead of competing.

Build relationships. It’s both the most rewarding way of promoting yourself and you end up making really good friends in the process.

How do you personally discover new music?
Via my own community #MonsterThread and also via friends and other independent music promoters. Very rarely via the mainstream channels.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?
Try different stuff out. If you normally write indie rock, try some jazz or a hip hop tune. Collaborate with others as much as you can!

Take help from others. Might be another artist or a professional producer.
