Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hey, my name is ?KAMI and i'm a producer from Houston Tx. I dabble mostly in heavy bass style electronic music. You know like dubstep, future bass and trap.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I honestly just really love good music. I grew up on 90's hip hop and pop, went through a metalcore/progressive phase in my teens and early twenties. found EDM/bass music during my second run of college. I think I was like 23/24 then. but yeah, i would say i take influences from all those parts of my life and try to pour them into what i create now. i've been making music since I learned to play the guitar at 14 years old. that's almost 15 years ago. I started playing mostly in post hardcore and metal bands. specifically metalcore and deathcore, before eventually buying a seven string guitar and diving into more progressive metal. when it comes to bass music, that's where a lot of my inspiration comes from. I just really try to make music that my younger self would of wanted to listen to. ha. When I collab with other artist they tend to think my drops are wild and crazy which, yeah they are! I like to do syncopated rhythms which is probably due to playing/listening to really technical bands like periphery, within the ruins, structures and the contortionist to name a few. I grew up in north Houston, so i was surrounded by a lot of rap/hip hop and you know "real" trap music lol not edm trap. i like to turn on some trap bangers from time to time and just drive slow and swang. some of my other inspirations are the really video gamey bubble gum jpop and kpop songs. kinda like what you would hear in anime, which, I actually really like anime lol. Some of my early works are similar to dofflin which is an early subgenre of future bass. stylistically, it would be similar to Wave Racer or early Pusher… just, really bright and shiny cute trap music haha. As long as it gets my head banging or my toes tapping, i enjoy just about all kinds of music. Well, except for country music. lol. as for my tastes I still enjoy to put on those metal bands i listened to back in day, you know…for nostalgia's sake. I also like to frequent this one bar/club in my city where they do 80's and 90's night. Man, with good company and strong drinks it's always a good time! lol.
What´s new right now?
I actually released my First EP in december of 2017. It's titled "kick It"and it came out on the 21st, which was actually my birthday. You can take a listen to it on the popular streaming/downloading platforms such as apple music, spotify, soundcloud to name a few. im also got some rap/hip hop things in the works as well so stay up to date with ya boi and you'll get the details as the project progresses. i'm still learning how to DJ but plan to get the ball rolling on playing dj sets by the end of 2018.
