KIITE

Read the KIITE Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

I'm KIITE, a DJ/producer/artist from South London, UK. KIITE is Japanese for "listen" and is also a nod to my favourite part of the universe, the sky. I make ambient music of all kinds but having my most prominent roots in UKG and Grime, I often deviate down that path too. The idea behind my music is always to evoke emotion in the listener and take them on an atmospheric, relaxed journey, even if sometimes a little bit of a dark one.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I grew up listening to a lot of classical and celtic music in our house so that has no doubt stayed with me and can be heard as a strong influence in my music. As I grew up I played piano and drums but a love of Jungle, UK Garage, Grime, Dub and UK Dubstep merged with my formative tastes and lead me to what I create today. I listen to anything that has emotion in it, even if those emotions are aggression, anger, sadness or pain, I feel like music is maths and maths is the universe. There is something deep inside all of us that connects us all to what we don't/can't understand about the world we live in; much like the universal laws of maths and geometry.

What´s new right now?

At the moment, I am re-scoring an old track of mine for a performance by a string quartet in January 2018 with The London Composers Platform. "Story of the Lost" (released as "Story" on my "Sarva" EP on Route 1 Audio's label in 2015) is my favourite piece I have made to date and so it felt fitting to bring that to life in the way that most excites me, live. I am very proud of that whole EP, but "Story" and "Seraph" remain two of my all time favourites. Aside from that, I am working on quite a few collabs with an amazing producer called SINNF from Bristol that will be out very soon, we are just tidying it all up in order to start work on the release. I plan to get another EP (3-5 tracks) out in the first half of the new year and finish a few more collabs that have been slowly bubbling away with my Route 1 Audio family members; Monkixx and James Wilson aka RNDM. Monkixx and I are going to start work on an audio visual project in the new year too so watch this space. Lastly, I think I can say that I am waiting for the final word on an old collab track of mine being featured in a very large budget film due for release soon but that's all I can say!
