Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Carl and I produce and perform under the alias LAAME. I'm a 20 year old producer/DJ from Sydney, Australia. I'm musically trained as a jazz and rock guitarist and throughout high school I performed in various Indie rock bands but I found my love for music production and electronic dance music when I was 17 and being producing dance music ever since then. I'm an avid traveller, I love exploring new places and emerging myself in different cultures. I'm obsessed with Japanese culture, I'm a lover of anime and Japanese pop music and I think my love for the Japanese pop culture really inspires the music I write. Personal experiences mainly influence the type of music I write, I love lyrical composition because I think sometimes it's better to express what you're feeling through lyrics than to converse them. Currently I have an EP without a release date that I'm planning and working on, it's currently been a slow process but I'm also travelling. I'm looking forward to 2018 and seeing where it leads me musically and personally!!
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
Musically, my taste hasn't changed a great deal since when I was about 15/16. I think it's grown more diverse as I become more appreciative of different styles and genres of music. Some of my favourite artists are Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Foals, Wave Racer, Porter Robinson, Tyron Hapi, Muse, Flume, Lee Fields, Patsy Cline and Odd Mob. It's quite a diverse list in genres that spans over several decades of music. I think the music I produce is usually what I'm listening to at the current time, I've recently started producing more house music but I'll always try to throw roots and influences from other genres into it.
Lyrically, I love listening to bands and analysing how they construct lyrics. I'm greatly inspired by the lyrics of Alex Turner of The Arctic Monkeys, Matthew Bellamy of Muse but even older artists such as Patsy Cline, Elvis and Kate Bush.
What´s new right now?
I'm currently planning on doing more travelling and producing music along the way! I've got a few trips planned for this year so I'm looking forward to writing and composing more music as time goes on!
No upcoming gigs at the moment but my EP is looking like it's going to be a really fun adventure. Can't wait to see what 2018 holds for me!
