Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
We are Lady Boy Records, a Reykjavik (Iceland) based music label.
We (Nicolas Kunysz & Frimann Isleifur Frimannsson) have founded the label in 2013 in order to release music we find worthy, no matter genre or category the music can be associated with.
We release mainly very unique limited edition physical releases; Those have taken the form of tapes most of the time, which, most of the time, we laser engraved artworks on. We released as well lathe cut vinyls and CDs., soon to come we have 2 releases on pressed vinyls.
Each of our release is a very unique process in a very close dialog with each artist.
How would you describe your style and genre?
The whole statement of Lady Boy Records somehow is escaping genres;
We called it Lady Boy as a reference to the "gender" of music, we do not care if it is electronic, punk or whatever, if the music is good, it is good.
Our interest usually leads towards music that is somewhat hybrid, that you cannot always pin point as part of a specific genre.
It is a statement that celebrates diversity and flexible boundaries.
Who are your biggest influences and idols … and why? Do you have any idols? Are you a super fan of anyone? (Dead or alive, musician or non-musician)
Our main influence would be the lack of things around that we actually relate to.
That is why we founded the label, to be able to hear and see those things around us.
The whole concept of idols, icons, or stars is something we would rather not go into, as I do not see how this could be any positive in term of future creations.
What´s new right now? What should our readers know about that is coming up from you?
In two days (26/07/2017) we release our new tape of Madonna + Child, a wonderfully genuine album, full of glittery darkness, cats and tiny knives.
After that we have quite a lot of release coming up, including some vinyls that will be a re edition of two of our previous albums that where at that time released on tapes. We also have few tapes coming up, including a very strange instrumental album from Lord Pusswhip.
Many more to come, many more..
