Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Steven, I go by laska. I've been producing for roughly 5 years (under different monikers) and DJing for about 2. I've played a few, smaller local shows. I make beats, some EDM tracks every so often and DJ at the occasional house party.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I started making music in my Senior year of high school after discovering the EDM derivative of trap music, artists like diplo, Baauer, RL Grime, stuff like that. I was listening to a lot of Top 40, Metalcore (Asking Alexandria and A Day To Remember type stuff), and a little bit of Skrillex around that time, so Trap music was new to me and something that totally blew my mind. I thought that maybe I'd be able to make something like that and downloaded FL Studio, which I still use today. A lot of the influences I had then are still pretty similar these days, the list just keeps growing. I am a huge fan of artists who think outside the box. 2017 was really weird for me and found myself listening to a lot of abstract genres like Lil Peep and nothing, nowhere which having really influenced a lot of the beats I've been making lately.
What´s new right now?
For 2018, I've decided to take a whole new direction with music. I decided that, instead of EDM, I would start a collective with one of my homies. We are focusing more on bringing up underdogs in our local music scene. We have a few releases planned for March but right now it's still in the early stages.
