Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm Jon Buxton AKA Magnifique! I've been DJing for over half my life I had my first encounter with proper DJing at a young age, sharing the decks with the likes of Rat Pack, Ellis Dee, Top Buzz and Seduction in the early 90’s at Insomnia, UK.
From there I played The Attic (Home of Shades Of Rhythm), The Monkey Bar, The Verve. I had my own night for a couple of years
called "SOULFOOD" very eclectic (Funk/Soul/Hip-Hop/Jazz/House etc).
In 1995 I got a slot at DISCOPOINT (Ibiza). That's as far as I went with it all.
I had a break from it to go travelling and to start a family, but it wouldn’t be long before I got back behind the decks (it was in my blood).
In 2012 I did a series of nights for the Eclectic Ballroom (Jim & Zed Glastonbury fame), which then fueled the fire for performing and I started making my own tracks and general tinkering of that nature.
In 2013 "MAGNIFIQUE" was born which lead me to promote a series of nights with the likes of Mr.B The Gentleman Rhymer, Jim & Zed (Eclectic Ballroom), DJ Cutmastersmart & B-Mize.
2013 was a great year for me as this was the start of my residency at THE BIG CHILL HOUSE/BAR (Kings Cross/Brick Lane in London UK).
I truly miss THE BIG CHILL as the atmosphere and staff were amazing.
2015 I moved to Australia with wife & kids (Lucky Australia).
Since being in Queensland I have played The Nook and Cranny in Nambour & landed a fortnightly slot at both Mooshka (Sunshine Beach) & Mykies By The Bay (Kawana Island) I did a few evenings at Eve @ Nine (Noosa) (This was playing down-tempo stuff incl Funk/Soul/Jazz/Rare disco etc).
I was also asked to do regular YOGA mix for a local gym.
2017 I started to up my game and produce some higher standard of work with some original/edits/remixes which in turn caught the eye of two dudes in Amsterdam (SHMLSS) who Play Records & Run a label called XXX @X3TheLabel & Disco selectors at 22TRACKS Amsterdam. I was over the moon when they wanted to release one of my edit/remix of a classic jackin' house track. It will be released later on this year on a 12" vinyl record.
We are now at the present day……………..Haha life story or what.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I'm definitely a melting pot of sounds…!!! From Hip-Hop to Breakbeat to Funk to Soul to Techno to Disco the list goes on and on. There are so many artists that have inspired me to do what I do, it's hard to name all of them as we would be here all day….;) But if I had to name a few I would say…… Hijack, James Brown, Daniele Baldelli, Faze Action, Lynn Collins, Giorgio Moroder, Kraak & Smaak, Dave Angel, Crazy P……………. As I said it could go on and on. I have changed my taste over time I've learnt to enjoy music from many different genres.
