Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Mikkel, and I produce under the alias Maslin. I make these housy nu-disco beats from my home in CPH, Denmark. I've been a DJ for years now, playing all around CPH. I've made some remixes of a couple of old R&B songs, mostly because I wanted something unique for my sets. At the same time I worked on my own original EP, testing the demos in the clubs. The demos catched the attention from the hungarian label Play&Tonics who signed my EP, which was released last winter.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I have one million trillion gazillion different projects, and sometimes it's really hard to keep track on my own projects and stuff. I really believe in diversity, and I think you need to be able to understand and recreate most electronic genres in order to be a good producer. This Maslin project is my take on this specific Copenhagen vibe that has been going on for some years now. There's several producers based here who are working on these sleazy disco beats with a 90s touch. I wanted to do something similar, mainly to see if I was able to do it! I've literally made anything from hardcore trap to ambient experimental stuff doing the years, so yeah there's a lot of "taste-changening" going on ?
What´s new right now?
I don't have any upcoming releases with this project. Right now I'm focusing on a different project with a english dude working from London. I hope I'll find some time for future "disco-dasco" releases in the future. It's just so much fun!
