Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Miselle, singer and song-writing originating from Ottawa, currently based in Toronto, Canada.
My vocal and song-writing influences include soul, r&b, jazz and pop. The goal in any music endeavour is to tell a story. I want to take the listener away on a auditory journey that leaves them with a shared feeling of the joy, wonder, sadness, or excitement conveyed in my music.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
As a young child, I was surrounded by my mother's high-soprano vocals. She often brought me to choir practices, where I experienced the auditory impact of melody, harmony, tempo, rhythm and volume that make listening to a good choir so amazing. As a classically trained violinist, I grew to further appreciate how these values permeate all music. The intensity and strength of staccato, the calm of legato. The joy in major melodies, the yearning in minor keys. The impatience of sixteenth, and the delayed gratification of full notes. Today, the same considerations inform much of how meaning and emotion is conveyed in my vocals.
More recently, I'm inspired by producers such as Major Lazer, Cashmere Cat and Dj Snake. The combination of digital and natural instrumentation, with beautiful vocals offers an expansive musical playground within which to experiment.
What´s new right now?
There are 3 main projects in the works, ranging from pop to experimental.
I'm also gearing up for series of charity performances (live, jazz) in the new year.
