Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
We're Myers Mountain from Central Pennsylvania, USA. We make the music we want to hear centered mostly around drums, bass, vocals, original lyrics, guitar, and keyboards. Currently we're working as a two-piece, but our whole band consists of three members. We produce our own music and write a good majority of our own songs. We love making music and sharing it with anyone who is willing to take the time and listen. Making music is very important to us and is what we do best. We've made eleven full albums of our music and are currently working on the twelfth.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
Our influences range from Woody Guthrie and Simon & Garfunkel to Herbie Hancock and Return to Forever. To us there seems to be a certain kind of power contained within some of those 40-50 year old recordings, sometimes older. Through recording our own original music it's not our intent to emulate or copy any of the 20th Century's greatest musicians. Our intent is to listen as close as we can to learn the techniques, learn the time, and capture something great on tape as so many musicians of years past have. There's certainly something to be said for composition and workmanship if a 50 year old song still hits listeners right where it counts; Some sound or phrase inevitably comes back around to make a difference yet again.
What´s new right now?
What's new for Myers Mountain? A whole lot. As of right now we're currently recording and mixing two cover songs by the Beatles and Buddy Holly. Our original music still takes precedence though. We're finishing up another 3 tunes that open up a more jammy, improvisational section towards the middle. Some of more recent music dives into our road trip we took across the United States, talks about the more introspective side of being a 20-something in America and illustrates some of the nonsense and humor that's around all of us everyday.
