Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Alex, I'm a 20 year old French-Austrian producer. I study in the UK and am currently on a year abroad which I am completing in Hong Kong and Melbourne. I started my project "Neidex" about 4 years ago in Singapore during high school, when I started to produce and mix. I now host my own events under the name "access" alongside some friends from my university. It's an exciting project in which we host city-themed events. We started off in Leamington Spa, the city next to our university, and expanded to London and Hong Kong, hosting events in the renown club "Phonox" and even boat parties.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I started producing when Big Room and Progressive House were the hottest thing in the EDM scene, with artists such as Avicii and Martin Garrix sparking my interest in music production. Back then my production skills were extremely limited, and I always have to laugh when I listen to my first tracks. However, once I discovered Future House, I immediately fell in love with this new genre. I produced a few tracks influenced by the styles of Tchami, Oliver Heldens, Don Diablo and more.

I eventually got a bit sick of the genre which has become too repetitive and started trying out new things. The main moment I realised I wanted to switch things up was after I performed at one of our events in the UK with Parisian artist LeMarquis. My set mainly contained Nu Disco, Funk and Disco tracks, and the people were just vibing in a different way then when I mix other styles. I then started to produce new music heavily influenced by Kaytranada, LeMarquis and Chris McClenney, with my own style which you can recognise in each of my tracks.

What´s new right now?

I'm not only working on Disco stuff at the moment actually. I have an upcoming Tech House release with a UK based label. I don't really want to limit myself to one style, which is why I'll continue producing Tech House and House tracks in the style of Kink, Mall Grab, Solomun and more. I'm also working on a new remix which I might release on my record label 0600 Records.

In terms of events and live gigs, hosting events and mixing in Hong Kong was my main achievement of 2017. The next plan is to expand our events to new cities such as Paris. I might mix at some events in Melbourne during my exchange semester, who knows

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

It's hard to be a "superfan" when your taste in music is constantly evolving. When I was 14 my favourite artist was Avicii. During a period later on it was Tchami. Now I love so many artists that I wouldn't be able to consider myself a superfan. I do really love artists like Kaytranada, Mall Grab, Chris McClenney and Terrence Parker though.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

I was lazy. I did not bother looking into mixing and mastering tutorials and just immediately released my tracks. When I listen to my old tracks now I just have to laugh. Don't rush into it, wait until you're 100% satisfied with your music before showing it to everyone.

How do you personally discover new music?

It varies. Usually I just use Soundcloud or YouTube, but I often discover new tracks through recorded sets or even when I'm in a club. I'll just ask the DJ what track he's playing if I like a specific song. Once I search that song online, it will just make me discover a bunch of other tracks I'll enjoy.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“Not really, I'll just play new songs by new artists I discover either when I'm with friends or when I'm mixing. If someone likes it then he or she will just ask me about the track.

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

Not really. My main goal is to expand my event series in different cities, and obviously to complete my undergraduate studies. I don't really worry about the future, I'll just see where things go!
