Read the Nic Illing Interview below and share it on social media.
Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hi, my name is Nic Illing and I'm an 18 years old EDM artist/dj from Germany, mainly focused on Progressive House, Big Room and Deep Future House. I'm living in a small town close to Frankfurt.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
When I first started music production, my biggest influences were Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Tiesto and also smaller artists like Mesto and Mike Williams. I used to listen a lot to different music genres but mainly to House music like Progressive House, Future House, Deep House and Bass House. I first started with Future House and after a while I got into the Progressive House scene. In my opinion my music style changed a lot in the passed two years, because I always try to experiment and find new sounds and styles, so I don't want to determine my music in one genre, because I want to refine me and my music to get on new levels and also grow with the scene. I really love the Progressive House/ Big Room scene because it is full of energy.
What´s new right now?
At the moment I'm working on my first album consisting out of 8 songs, which will be released at the beginning of 2018 on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Soundcloud, Youtube etc.. I'm working on a few collaborations with different talented artists and singers also from other genres. At the moment I try to get my name bigger in the EDM scene, with new music videos and label releases and I also look forward to get more bookings for festival and club shows in 2018.

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?
I'm a big fan of Martin Garrix, because he's one of the reasons why I got started with music. So I really enjoy his kind of style and he inspires me a lot.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?
I think I never made big mistakes in when I started music production, because you learn through everything you do. My tip number one I would give to a newcomer is to always experiment and don't just focus on one style. An other tip would be to always believe in yourself, because every beginning is hard, so don't give up when it gets hard or difficult.

For growing your Soundcloud, its very important to be active, like posting new music and also repost songs from artists you look up to, because other people will see that you got a very identical music taste like them.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
One big challenge for me right now is to finish the songs for my new album, because I spend the most of the time in the studio.
But as long as you love what you do you'll achieve your goals, not important what it is.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?
Send the Song before mastering to some friends or other artist, to figure out, what to change in the song, because other people in the scene can help you to make your song become better. And if you get positive feedback you can finish the song with a good feeling without being dissatisfied, because the most important thing is that you are happy with the song. After that I would focus on the mastering process to get your song as good as possible.
