Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Nicholas Dato and I am a producer and DJ from Chicago, Illinois. Ive been around music pretty much my whole life and my production career started about 6-7 years ago when I began buying and collecting different varieties of synthesizers, keyboards, guitars and other instruments. As of now I produce different sub genres of EDM such as Progressive/ Future House, Future Bass, Trap, Chill Trap, and other kinds of melodic genres. I also have recently stepped out of the bedroom and started Djing at a few different colleges. I have future plans to begin Djing some shows at different venues, clubs and bars.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

My style of production has changed significantly in the last few years as a result of inspiration from other artists, and my passion to find "my sound" as a producer. My sound and how I want my music to be identified is definitely still in the works because I feel it can always improve however I have seen a massive lean in my music that favors the melodic aspect of EDM. This is no doubt as a result of influence by artists such as Said The Sky, Illenium, and Seven Lions. However, in the future I plan to release a wide variety of music styles that can give the listener different emotions that can range from soaring melodic music to bouncy dance music. Although music is the main source for influence and inspiration on my own music, I also find inspiration from difference kinds of art and places around the world. I recently went to Las Vegas and was incredibly inspired by how much life is there, and just how alive it can make you feel. Art and inspiration is all around us, and I often absorb it and hold it in for as long as I can, and channel it out through music.

What´s new right now?

As of right now I do not have a specific release in the works. I am mostly just experimenting and trying to scrap up an idea that really inspires me to actually release it. At the same time, I do know that I want my next release to be an original track or possibly a collaboration that is produced by myself/ others as well as working with an actual vocalist. I also have a goal in 2018 to play a show, preferably somewhere in the city and show people my potential of what a live set from me might sound like. You can keep up on my social media to stay connected with my future plans and future releases.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Ive found that I often times get whats called "writers block" in the studio where you feel as though you are getting nowhere during a session and just feel generally uninspired. Ive faced this problem so many times before, so much so that I have wanted to give up on producing because I can go into a writers block slump for weeks or even months at a time. Although the first thought would be to just keep grinding in the software, I have found that for me the best way to overcome this is by actually taking a break and possibly get inspired by other art such as painting, drawings, and places that I feel comfortable and inspired in.

How do you personally discover new music?

The main places that I head to if I am purposely searching for new music is probably Soundcloud and maybe even YouTube. However, I also get connected with many different producers on Instagram and find music that way and it is a great way to find up and coming talent. On occasion I will also find new songs that I like from the radio and from friends/ family.
