Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
I'm NVY and I'm a 20 year old electronic artist from Vancouver. I started making music in the 10th grade mostly to kill time but I've been playing music since I was 7. I think the reason I gravitated towards a more solo path for music creation was because I got fed up waiting on band mates all the time. My main goal with my music is to find a perfect balance between more synthesized sounds and super organic and natural sounding elements. I've always loved being outdoors and I feel most inspired when I'm out in the forest or in the mountains. I try and bring some of that home with me by having a ton of plants in the studio, that's where my whole "music for plants" thing came from. How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
I think my influences come from a lot of different places. I listen to a super broad range of music because I think that everything out there has something to offer. The artists that got me into electronic music were definitely acts like Daft Punk and Deadmau5. Definitely more traditional electronic acts, now I've pivoted to more experimental artists like Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada and Sam Gellaitry. If I had to give a top 3 as of right now it would probably be; Flying Lotus, Kanye West and Clams Casino. This could be different by next week though, I actually keep a list on a white board in my room that helps me keep track of what musicians I'm listening to at the moment. I also use playlists that I update daily with my favourite rap, electronic, classical and even some pop tacks that I think sound cool. Streaming platforms have definitely helped me discover new artists much quicker than before. Previously I would find a lot of my favourite musicians through DJ mixes like the UKF 2010 compilation was a big one for me when I was first starting to consume more electronic music. Now it's mostly through checking out record label rosters, twitter, music blogs or Spotify.
What´s new right now?
I've actually got a project coming out real soon, I haven't really released anything for a while and haven't really said anything about it until recently but my debut EP "Fabric" is going to be out real soon! I wrote about 12 songs and cut it down to 4 so you guys should be hearing those soon enough! The whole EP has a really unique sound and I really took my time to make it my own.
