ONE&TWO

Read the ONE Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Jay McCabe and I am half of a duo called ONE&TWO with Nick Moaier. We have been making music together for a couple years now. However, we are childhood friends and started DJing in high school before we turned to production. Now we are primarily producing music rather than playing shows while living on opposite sides of the USA. We respectively have had releases on Artist Intelligence Agency and House Party Records.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Nick and I both had a musical background while growing up. Nick grew up in a family that predominately played guitar and he was influenced by his uncle whom wrote music for Go Radio. On the other hand I grew up singing in choir, which has now aided me in writing the music we make today. As far as electronic music goes, Nick and I started listening to dubstep (gag) back in 2011 and since then our influence and style have changed immensely going from dubstep to electro house to big room to progressive house and now into our deep house style. We started making this deep house and bass house esque genre from being influenced by some of Vegas’s biggest house producers such as Arioso, Sebastian Knight, Uknew, and TYPE3. If you haven’t heard of them you need to go check them out.

What´s new right now?

We have a lot of things coming soon and we’re extremely excited about it all. We have two more releases (if not more) coming before the new year rolls around. Our next release is called Fugg, which is going to be released on Artist Intelligence Agency’s Eyes on You Imprint late this month or early December and it might be our favorite track we’ve made. The following release called Flashing Lights is most likely going to come out in December. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for those.

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

The number one mistake when every person starts making music is that more is better. When we first started making music our project files would be massive and at least 100 individual channels. So, if you are a new producer make every sound count rather than just throwing sounds everywhere haphazardly.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Our biggest challenge right now is consistency. When releasing music, consistency is the key to staying relevant. We have struggled with consistency, but we are overcoming it by writing and producing a song a week.

How do you personally discover new music?

If you would have asked me this question six months ago I would have easily said Soundcloud. Now I find all of my music on Spotify through artists’ playlists, curated playlists, or Record labels playlists. Don’t get me wrong, Soundcloud is great for finding music both big and small, but Spotify takes the win in this category for me.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Get out of the bedroom/house. Producer’s are working extremely hard, but are also burning themselves by spending 60 hours a week in front of their laptop. Simply just get out of the house and take influence from the world around you instead of constantly being in your home studio. Go for a walk in your city, go to a show, go experience what is happening.
