Opium Dream Estate

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

We are Opium Dream Estate, an indie band based in Paris. There is four members in the band, I, Sébastyén, singing, playing guitars. Hellebore, on the keyboards. She also doing the backing vocals and sometimes the lead one. Then Guillaume on a bass and backing vocals and last but not least, Rodolphe on drums and backing vocals.

How would you describe your style and genre?

Well… not an easy question but I would say that, now, it is kind of a mix between, gothic folk, indie rock and dark americana. The project initially was based in neofolk and darkwave music with some psychedelic sounds but it slowly incorporates new sounds from the delta blues, americana, grunge and also indie rock. And this is a good thing for I don't want Opium Dream Estate to be stuck in one music genre, I want it to evolve, to surprise us and the people.

Who are your biggest influences and idols … and why? Do you have any idols? Are you a super fan of anyone? (Dead or alive, musician or non-musician)

We have many but the biggest ones are The Cure, Wovenhand, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Led Zeppelin, Sol Invictus, Paul Roland, Pearl Jam, VAST, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Fields of the Nephilim, Depeche Mode. There are many others, in music but also in arts, literature like Edgar Allan Poe – the name of the band comes from Edgar Allan Poe's writings – Charles Baudelaire, Blake, Yeats.

What´s new right now? What should our readers know about that is coming up from you?

We are working on new songs and a new single, including a Pink Floyd cover as a b-side. Then gigs. We hope the new single will offer us more visibility and the possibility to play in nice venues and festivals. I think we're going to start the recording sessions by the end of the Summer. And we also will record a Sol Invictus song, Black Easter, for a Sol Invictus/Tony Wakeford tribute compilation that will be released on More Than Folk Records, in 2018. Oh, and the EP, Shades, originally a digital release, on The White Room, will available on CD in October for the very first time. People can pre-order it on our bandcamp page and have more informations about it and everything else our Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/opiumdreamestate.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
Our biggest Challenge is to get a signed on a good label. Indie one. Sub Pop, Glitterhouse or Sargent would be more than wonderful. Sub Pop would be a kind of dream for some personal reasons. We are working hard on it so… who knows. You never know. But sure, to get signed on an indie label would be great and helpful for us, to get gigs, tour and more.
