OVRWTCH

Read the OVRWTCH Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My artist name is OVRWTCH, I am an Uruguayan DJ and Producer. Uruguay is a small country in South America. I make whatever genre of music i'm feeling like making but mostly Trap and Bass music. I'm 19 years old and started producing at the age of 16.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I got into electronic music with house and techno, here in Uruguay electronic music isn't the most popular genre but it started growing big around 2010, it still isn't very popular but you see some raves here and there. The first inspiration to start producing was Oliver Heldens for sure, i am a big fan of his work even before he went mainstream, i remember listening to Gecko for the first time and that's when i decided to start producing. I still love house but Trap and Heavy bass music is my passion. Artists like DJ Snake and Yellow Claw are role models to me when it comes to what they achieved by making the music they enjoyed making despite it being "mainstream music or not".

What´s new right now?

I will release my first track on Spotify really soon, i think it is my best track to date. I'm working on loads of music everyday so you should always expect one new track every month or 2!

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

In the electronic music industry i only feel that way about Yellow Claw, DJ Snake and Oliver Heldens. They are my biggest inspiration when it comes to making music and i wouldn't be making it without them. I saw Oliver twice and Yellow Claw once and i cried every time. I'm seeing Yellow Claw again and DJ Snake for the first time next year so i'm really stoked!

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Don't release everything you make, i know you might listen to it and think it's a great song but everyone's first work is usually awful. Work as hard as you can.

Once you discovered new music, do you tell others about the new music/artist you discovered? If yes, how exactly?

“I send links as soon as i find new music to my producer friends and some music lovers, altough i have some tracks that i save for myself in case i have a gig coming soon and want to blow everyones mind with some 500 plays banger no one has ever heard of before, after that i'll tell everyone the track ID.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Practice is key and anyone knows that, but also try to think outside the box. When you're producing you might do a lot of things every other producer does without even noticing it. Add stuff you would've never tought of hearing in an EDM track. Let your creativity do the work.

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

The best advice i can give you is to take breaks. After 6 hours sitting in front of your laptop and realizing you haven't done anything to the track because you don't know what to do, i think you should call it a day and try again maybe in a week or so and you might come up with new ideas!

We meet again in one year. What has changed?

I don't expect to be playing major festivals like some people do, i've been producing for 3 years which isn't a lot so i have expectations for the future but not as much as playing EDC because that would be insane. I hope to have released more music and played loads of gigs no matter how big they are.
