Paul Duddy (Reverse Jazz)

Read the Paul Duddy (Reverse Jazz) Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Hi my name is Paul Duddy from Derry in N.Ireland and I currently DJ under the name of Reverse Jazz. I have always been a very keen listener to electronic music but only in the last year and a half I decided to start to DJ myself. It is something i have always wanted to do and i started at a more mature age – 38 years old. I primarily started as I wanted to hear the tunes i like in mixes so what better way to do it yourself. I would not necessarily put the music i play into a specific genre. I just like to play electronic music. Give it a listen and see for yourselves.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

My influences comes from what music i like to listen to myself which is very wide ranging and some of the mixes i do can be very different from others. I think my influences have not changed over the years but have got more refined. My earlier years i was into techno music with a much higher bpm but maybe over the years i have settled in 116-125 bpm range. i like tunes to tell you a story and then fit those stories into your set.

One of my biggest influences at the minute would be Michael Reutten and his Soulsearching radio show. i think that the music he plays is so varied and just very cool.
My two other influences would be Patrice Baumel – his set at the Panorama Bar at 12 noon on a Sunday is one of the best sets i have heard – check it out if you have not already heard it. I really liked how he progressed gradually up the DJ ladder and he deserves all the praise he gets today.
My other one is Mr Gerd Janson – what can i say, one of the best selectors and DJ's around at the minute and the last few years at that!!

What´s new right now?

Right now i am jut basically starting out on my DJ career, i play in the Guildhall Taphouse in Derry every month as a resident. I did a mix for Brian Bacchus's Summit Sessions which got aired back in August which was really good. I entered the TWSTd DJ-Contest 2017 in Holland online and i got shortlisted for the final but due to work commitments i could not commit going to Holland for it, but next time maybe.

I am basically not pushing my music to anybody and if it happens naturally it happens. I just enjoy people listening to my mixes and feeling good. If that's all i get out of it i am happy!

Check the links at the bottom for my mixes, hope you enjoy!!
