Read the Peloquin Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

PELOQUIN is Darrell J. Gilbert Jr, an electronic bassmusic producer (formerly known as DARKO) hailing from the Midwest of North America in Dayton, OH. PELOQUIN has grown into his own unique, abrasive, experimental, and innovative musical style; from which has been coined the term "Doomstep:" a subgenre focusing on the 122bpm – 100bpm spectrum of tempos that he has found his home in electronic bassmusic. PELOQUIN has played with a slew of talented visionary bassmusic / electronic artists such as Eprom, Sayer, DMVU, Yheti, Toadface, Jantsen, Of The Trees, Mt. Analogue, Bib Wingus, Die-Verse, Tetra, AB-Life, Indigo Child, Matter, & Sather Bass. With a new year around the corner the PELOQUIN project isn't slowing down anytime soon.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

I have always been a huge fan of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, The Prodigy, Crystal Method & DJ Shadow. When I first started producing electronic music in 2015 I went under the alias "DARKO". I was really into Bassnectar, G Jones, & Tipper at the time. Also discovering hometown heroes / friends Yheti, Toadface, & Mt. Analogue really pushed me deep into the underground. When the Nite School Klik project came out (featuring G Jones, & DJ Shadow) there was a remix by a producer named EPROM which was my introduction to that unique sound that just truly blew me away. I am a huge fan of Doom, Experimental, Post Rock, Noise, Drone, Sludge, & Post Metal especially with my aggressive musical background. But EPROM was a huge step in that direction accept it was halftime electronic music. The first time seeing EPROM live I was blown away in every aspect. As a artist it was life changing. How I viewed mixing, and performance was completely changed. From then on I have gotten heavily into Sayer, Tsuruda, Bleep Bloop, Woolymammoth, Amon Tobin, Noer The Boy, Mad Zach, Proko, DMVU, Noisia, NastyNasty, Zeke Beats, & Holly. I am always looking for the interesting, abstract, dynamic, gnarly artists.

What´s new right now?

I recently released a single called "Lurk Of The Shape", and a EP titled "Binary Dreams" in October (check out my website below for more info). I am currently sitting on just over 20 tracks that have yet to be heard unless you have seen me live recently. I plan on releasing a 45 minute mixtape in December containing all new material previewing the release catalogue for 2018. Some of the material may never actually be released. I like it when a artist has content that is for live use, and that is what I like when I go see the artists I mentioned above. Always changing it up. Always making it a unique experience.
