Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name's Ralfington, or just Ralph; DJ, remixer, and self-thought cook. I produce remix tracks of video games and anime series, as well as piano arrangements on the side. I'm currently signed to two net labels; GameChops and Tiny Waves.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Most of my tracks consists of old-school 8-bit music samples mixed with fun and upbeat tunes inspired by anime shows. I started off from writing short chiptune covers which i wrote using my Nintendo 3DS and a game cartridge called Korg DS-10+; which basically is a pocket-size synthesizer that can emulate sounds which then lets you manipulate it to an extent. Later on, I've moved to a more digital/electronic writing process which includes playing my bass guitar for the bass samples, an old Alesis SR-16 drum machine, all while still using my 3DS to write and produce 8/16-bit patterns.

So far for the past 5 years, my style has always stayed the same which is basically none (Haha!). I normally don't stick to one genre of music; if I here something, I play it out in my head, and if I think it's fun, I would go with that idea. I don't like restricting myself to one style/genre. I think having fun and liking what you do makes the process of writing music much more fun! I like playing video games and I like watching anime, so why not incorporate that to my music, right?

What´s new right now?

I've recently played at two shows at a convention called MAGfest, or Music and Gaming Festival which also stands for pretty much everything under the nerdom/geekdom spectrum. I've got a couple of shows lined up in the next few months, but that's still under wraps (follow my socials to get updates!). As far as music, I'm currently trying to finish most of the remixes I didn't get to finish last year which is a good handful. I'm also releasing a nice little Lo-Fi remix EP really soon! And since my last piano EP 'Bravely Arrange' had a nice reception, I am now also currently working on a full-length piano arrangement album! I've got a lot of stuff planned for this year!

Are you a superfan of anyone? How did you become a superfan? Do you remember how you become a fan and what turned you into super fan? Have you ever thought about why you´re such a fan?

Freddie Mercury. I started listening to Queen back in my early years of highschool. I've always been fascinated with the range of Freddie's voice and how powerful his performance were; both live in concert and in recordings. I also like the fact that we share the same birth date.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Comparing your music to others. It's not a very healthy habit. You'll just end up with something that's "not you", a music that has no connection to what you sound as an artist and as an individual. It's always good to study and analyze other artist's music and find inspiration from them, but never ever compare theirs it to yours.

Do you have insights on how to grow your audience on soundcloud that you want to share with our audience?

Just keep making music that YOU like. Make the music that YOU wanna hear. Release songs that YOU yourself are satisfied with. It's YOUR music so own it!

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Having personal time to spend on making and creating more music. I've recently just moved out to a different state and it's slowly getting better. I used to have almost zero time for myself not just towards my music but also just to do pretty much anything else; I was always preoccupied with personal problems, day-time jobs, family issues, and everything else in between. With the help of my girlfriend and a few good and close friends, I'm slowly collecting myself back up and hopefully return to my usual self.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?

Never limit yourself to just one style/genre. Express yourself however you want. Never be afraid of trying new things. Who knows, maybe that one sounds you've been looking for is right in front of you this whole time!

What is your best tip for those who struggle with finishing their tracks?

Keep it simple; not every song/track has to be complicated and/or intricate parts. It's not about how long or complex the track is; if you spent time and care for your track during the process of writing, recording, and mixing, all of those effort WILL show in the final product. Listeners will here the passion you've put into it.
