Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
Hey there! I'm Rawle Becerril from Washington, D.C., and I perform under the name Rawle Night Long. I've been djing for about seven years now, with the majority of my career just having started in the past 2 years. What started out as a bedroom passion soon evolved into an adventure with a life of its own. In the short amount of time I've been in the club circuit, I've had the honor of sharing bills and stages with world renown acts, ranging from Disclosure to Justin Martin, Claude VonStroke, Waze & Odyssey, and even a double header with Solardo & Latmun! I primarily delve in house and tech house, but I've been known to have an aggressive side, playing hip hop, trap, and club music with artists such as NGHTMRE and Yellow Claw.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
It's been seven years since I found myself immersed in the dance music world; to say that my influences haven't changed would be a bold faced lie. I'll admit, the first act that got me hooked into the dance music realm was Afrojack, and after seeing him in 2010 with my roommate and his girlfriend, it was only a short 2 years later that I found myself in South Beach attending my first Ultra Music Festival. It was that year in 2012 that I discovered Carl Cox, and my love for house begin to blossom. I had seen masses of people at other stages going crazy, raging, you know the typical festival type. But then I stumble across this Megastructure, and everyone was DANCING dancing, and I fell in love.
My tastes have definitely varied over the years, and I think that has to do with the fact that at the end of the day, I'm just a guy who likes music in general. People find it humorous when they catch me listening to World Music or the occasional Metal album, as if it's inconceivable that I would listen to music from those genres. If anything, my love for multiple styles and genres of music has only helped me grow as a DJ in that I feel comfortable playing those different genres whenever the need suits. I've played six hour house sets and 3 hour hip hop sets; it's all the same to me really, because I'm just playing music and enjoying myself, hoping that those listening are enjoying themselves as well!
What´s new right now?
2017 was a crazy year…in 2014, I saw Justin Martin & Claude Vonstroke for the very first time in Barcelona and in 2017 I opened for both of them (Justin Martin twice!). 2017 also saw the inception of my first residency, held at the 9:30 Club's Backbar venue here in Washington D.C. In partnership with the DMV Deep, a Facebook group of like minded fans, dj's, producers, and overall cool kids in the DMV that like the house, tech house, and deep house sound, The Residency is cool in that we were approached to do it, and not the other way around. Because of that, there's less of a focus on our end on making money, and more of a focus on giving new and/or inexperienced people an opportunity to not only share the music they love with others, but to feel comfortable behind decks and learning tips and tricks and skills that can only make them better DJs. Because of this, each residency night we have feels special and unique in its own right, as we have a variety of new talent at each event.
Other than that, I'm always doing shows! Just in January and February alone, I've got shows confirmed with Doctor P, Wax Motif, Goldfish, and Sacha Robotti (my first show in NYC!) In my day job, I work at SiriusXM, and I've now done three guest mixes for their dance programming channel Electric Area, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see a fourth entry sometime soon ?
