Read the Reggae Rob Interview below and share it on social media.

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

Reggae Rob is a radio DJ, artist and Master of Ceremonies currently working as the Programming Director for KWVA 88.1 FM, University of Oregon's student radio station. Although he has been at KWVA for three years, Rob got his start at KRCC 91.5 FM, an NPR member station located in Colorado Springs, CO. Rob has been DJing for six years, and while his expertise lies in reggae he has a wealth of knowledge on many modes of music, and is constantly exploring new genres and artists. In his free time Rob also makes beats and produces his own tracks, mash-ups and custom mixes. His favorite part about mixing is the creativity he channels in mixing new and old tracks together to create a sound unlike any other.

Rob's passion lies in the music itself and what music can do for people, whether it's making them dance or saving their souls. When he's not at the board Rob also enjoys riding his bike and reading, as well as writing and hiking.

How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?

Over the years Rob has been exposed to many wonderful DJs, MCs and artists. Although originally raised on classic rock and psychedelia, Rob's taste evolved after he met his mentor at KRCC 91.5 FM DJ Ron, who showed him the true beauty and power that could be found through reggae music. Reggae quickly consumed his life, and Rob went to college he was further exposed to underground hip-hop the likes he had never heard before. Studying legendary recordings by artists such as Quasimodo, Blu and Peanut Butter Wolf, Rob's taste changed from strictly roots into an evolution of sound rooted in sampling culture, aided by his vast knowledge of dub and dancehall.

What´s new right now?

Rob just finished a one-night-only Dance Party gig at the Hi-Fi Lounge in Eugene, Oregon where he lives. He also hosts a weekly radio show from 10-11 AM PST on Fridays on KWVA 88.1 FM, and in addition contacts, books and hosts live bands and artists for weekly live performances on Sundays from 4-6 PM PST on KWVA 88.1 FM.

Rob also DJs local bars such as The Barn Light and Falling Sky Pizzeria.

Soundcloud and Bandcamp are huge for me – having a free, easy resource that allows artists to release their music only adds to the community and can also encourage other artists to join the platforms, which in turn makes those platforms better!
