Read the RoBKTA Interview below and share it on social media.
Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?
My name is Roberto but everybody knows me as RoBKTA. I'm a music producer and DJ from Italy, now recently relocated in London.
I like to make music which showcases my deep love for the videogame music of the '90s as well as disco and house music, but sometimes I like also to go beyond and experiment myself: music is fun so everyone working on a song should have fun as well.
How would you describe your influences and how have they changed over the years?
Most of my influences come from the French House school of the late '90s and early '00s, so we talk about Daft Punk, Justice, Modjo, Alan Braxe and so on, but also from the British scene, so names like Jamiroquai, Basement Jaxx, Incognito, Brand New Heavies and Fatboy Slim to name a few. Add to this also a strong appreciation for videogame soundtracks: I love gaming, coming from my Sonic The Hedgehog, Streets Of Rage, Ridge Racer and Persona days; so I try to always add little nods to this universe in my music. As I said, I wanna create tracks that showcase also how much I look back to my childhood.
What´s new right now?
Right now I'm working on my new album which should come out later this year and has been anticipated by the single "Baby Boom"; one more single teaser for it is gonna come out on late January/early February. I've been also heavily involved with the Gamerdisco live shows in London and I'm doing my best to prepare and try to perform in the USA again next year (especially thinking about the Music And Gaming Festival in National Harbor, MD).

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
Keeping up to date while keeping my core essence. Music genres and trends tend to change every few years so in order to stay afloat you gotta learn how to keep up with them as well and learn how to add to what you do in order to stay relevant. As I said, I also like to experiment, so it's not always a strictly "four on floor" kind of deal. Is someone that in my opinion everyone should learn to do.

How do you personally discover new music?
Usually it can be in any possible way: from word of mouth to just hearing a new tune at a McDonald's and Shazaming it to see what it is. Sometimes I could also dig into the Internet or an used vinyl shop to find some obscure artist or album from the past that I personally enjoy it – as long as I find good music everything is possible.

What is your number one tip to improve your music production or songwriting skills?
Keep going even when seems too hard and give yourself a chance to learn from your mistakes; there will be times when your track doesn't "kill it" or that just is not what you were imaging it would be, but don't see it like the end of the world, see it as a start. Is a world made of hard work and sometimes frustration, but is all worth the final result.
