Ruth & Trudy

Please tell our readers who you are and what you do?

I make music on my laptop. Usually with a guitar and microphone, and then in-software (garage band) synths and drum machines. I also try to incorporate field recording type sounds for an atmosphere or nuance.

How would you describe your style and genre?

Even though it's not popular I'd say it's pop music, easy soft pop, sometimes rock-ish. Love ballads, sad, lo-fi music.

Who are your biggest influences and idols … and why? Do you have any idols? Are you a super fan of anyone? (Dead or alive, musician or non-musician)

I love of Montreal, Animal Collective, Beach House, all of Mat Cothran's projects like Coma Cinema and Elvis Depressedly, Girls, John Maus, LCD Soundsystem, My Bloody Valentine, Pure X, The Radio Dept., Sharon Van Etten, Slowdive, STRFKR, Suuns, Title Fight, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Xiu Xiu, Chelsea Wolfe, etc.

What´s new right now? What should our readers know about that is coming up from you?

I've been busy but I've been trying to put together some tracks for an album or EP at the least. I'm trying to make the recording quality stronger.

What was the biggest mistake you made when you started making music and what would be the number one tip you could give to a newcomer musician?

Thinking that everything you record is worth putting out for people to listen to. Wait until you have some stuff that you're truly proud of.

How do you get gigs? Can you share any tips?
People usually come up to me and ask if I want to play a show. But play some open mic nights at bars or whatever and then people will want to add you to sets.

What has been your biggest challenge right now? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?
Writing music is a struggle, recording music is a struggle, you just gotta push through
